IBF heavyweight tournament. What a joke

    Dimitrenko vs Banks
    Chambers vs Mormeck

What a joke. The finals is going to be Chambers versus Dimitrenko. A fight that already took place. Chambers is going to win again and then challange Wlad ....AGAIN ? Heavyweight division should be just eliminated all together.

I think it's time for Tito to invade the heavyweight division.

if you remove "IBF" and "Tournament" from the title of this thread, the conclusion is still accurate.

I thought Chambers was moving to cruiserweight? Or already did. Apparently, since the IBF figured out a way for him to remain, "relevant," he no longer sees the need.

I wouldn't be so sure he beats Dimitrenko again.

That isn't Jonathan Banks, is it?

No it's his brother the undefeated 18 year old prospect Devon "Kid Dynamite" Banks...

Haven't read about the tournament, but just looking at the IBF rankings as of last month, it's hard to see where they get those match-ups from.

    It should be

    Boytsov vs Arreola
    Solis vs Povetkin

Chambers beats Dimitrenko 9 times out of 8 and has already done so.

Letting Chambers fight the similarly statured Mormeck makes sense.

What they are pushing for, of course, is a vacation by Klitschko who refuses to face Chambers again.

Would love to see those two fights.

I would pick Dimitrenko in a rematch. Not with a lot of confidence.

No way. Dimitrenko is a tall oaf. Chambers kicks his ass seven days a week twice on sunday

A simple Adamek-Boystov elimination match makes more sense from every single angle.

Banks is small! Isn't he a cruiserweight? I don't blame Wlad for not wanting to face Chambers again.

Dimitrenko and Mormeck have already pulled out. It would be a shocker, if Chambers didn´t cruise through this regardless of the replacements. Chambers is a top five heavyweight on balls alone. What truly kills the heavyweight division, besides it´s lack of talent, is that all these pretenders are more scared of the Klitschkos than Spinks was of Tyson.

The problem is that Boytov didnt want to be part of it, Adamek will be fighting a Klit next year anyhow, Peter just fought and was dominated by the Klit, Povetkin is on his Atlas trip, Solis is fighting Thompson (isnt he?)...they might have included Chagaev but I can't see anyone clamouring for that...

Why the fuck would Dimitrenko pull out? He must not be too confident of facing Chambers again...given that Chisora just got a shot based on fighting absolutely no one, who would blame him

He´s with Universum. Nothing they do makes any sense these days. They have gone from being the most powerful promoter in Europe to being #4 in Germany and now close to being broke in a span of 7-8 years.

Its great karma, years of Erdei, grigorian, michalczewski etc. mismatches, then trying to force the million year talent Brahmer, Dimitrenko etc. on us...even Frank Warren would occasionally throw the public a bone, Universum were just interested in exploiting the public and TV paymasters

certain heavyweights out there (e.g. Haye) seem to think there is more up-side if they "don't" fight either Vitali or Wlad. but my understanding is, a match-up with either one constitutes the biggest pay-day available in the division.

I thought Dimitrenko did very well against Chambers except when he was on his ass. Far better than I expected from the reports. I do not think you can count on Chambers hurting him in a rematch.

It should make sense. A sanctioning body should have the leverage to get people to jump through hoops to fight for its title. And a tournament among the top 4 people willing to participate should provide a viable challenger.

Frankly, the purpose of this seems to be to generate fees. I am generally against eliminators, but not too much and I agree they have their place. However, I really don't like double-eliminator tournaments because I think they are unnecessary and generally unfair, particularly when you permit your champion to have voluntary defenses (as you should). Why should one challenger have to beat a minimum of two top 10 fighters in order to get a title shot when other challengers do not?

And apparently promoters and/or challengers agree. Which is probably why people aren't jumping at the IBF's tournament.

Chambers kicked his ass every which way, it was only competitive at the beginning and whenever Chambers took a breather, Dimitrenko is slow and predictable

  28. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

Dimitrenko is basically what people used to say Vitali and Wladimir was. Big, white, stand-up, slow, push the jab, plod the right hand, etc. Chambers comprehensively beat him up and made him want to quit. The difference between Wlad and Dimitrenko is the difference between Willie Pep and Jonjo Irwin.

  29. ElTerriblee

    ElTerriblee "Twinkle Toes" McJack

He basically lost every round, got dropped a few times, spit out his mouthpiece and wanted to quit. If Chambers wasn´t such a lazy fighter he would have knocked him out. Dimitrenko sucks. I´m not even sure he can beat the polish bum Sosnowski, especially in England.

  30. Irish

As I said, the IBF tournament is designed to get a vacation of the IBF title, and bring Povetkin into the mix, rather than secure some meaningful clarity for what is already a pretty clear situation: Wladimir is IBF Champ, and Dimitrenko, Chambers, Peter, Chris Byrd and other assorted IBF contenders/champs are all distant seconds.
