I rewatched this fight today and it was among the worst stoppages ever. Ruiz landed a combination (the only one of the fight) and Wayne Kelly jumped right in to stop it. In my opinion Oquendo was winning the fight and the bad stoppage robbed him of his chance to become a heavyweight champ. Please do yourselves a favor and rewatch the fight, from the beginning if possible, so we can share our views.
I just re watched it. Great fight indeed. My favorite parts : Round 3 2:20 minute mark. Ruiz faints a punch Round 4 1:02 mark. Oquendo looks really mean at Ruiz . Ruiz looks really mean at Oquendo and they look like they are gonna go to war. They don't. Round 7 43 second mark. Ruiz corners Oquendo and unleashes a clinch Round 9 2:59 minute mark. Ruiz looks like he's about to throw a 10 punch combination. Luckily for Oquendo the round ends.
This is total fabrication. The only way you would rewatch that fight is if you were using crystal meth and vodka and therefore your post wouldn't be so coherent. :nono:
:bears: I'm going to keep refreshing this page until i see both cards. It's enjoyable to see such dedicated fans. Don't rush because i'm waiting either. If you need to pause the fights from time to time in order to have a bathrrom break or something that's fine. I want some accurate analysis and scoring.
How rewatched Ruiz-Oquendo? No hot candle wax on hand to drip on your japs eye or electrodes aound to fix to your nipples?
this is one of the few Ruiz fight I never saw, where did you saw it UGO ?? I've looked for it for a while but never found it. Strangely, you could argue that Oquendo never lost in his career. The Tua stoppage was shit ( and he was winning the fight too ) and all his decision losses were robberies imo.
Tua stoppage was very legit. Oquendo was out on his feet and never complained. He didn't know where he was. As far as you not seeing this fight you should find it. Sure it's boring for 30 minutes but the last 5 seconds action picks up

I thought it was bad, sure Oquendo was wobbly, but he was still rolling with the punches and moving his head. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ewrnwEKk?fs=1&hl=fr_FR"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ewrnwEKk?fs=1&hl=fr_FR" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
So anybody watched it already, any scorecards? I had it 97-95 for Oquendo and that stoppage was BS. I am planning to rewatch it again tonight just to be sure. Also you others might want to watch it twice in a row and perhaps use slow motion to see the punches that actually land
Your first post was funny, suggesting we re-watch the fight...genius in fact. Now it's overkill and taking away from the original humour.
Oquendo should have won that fight as everything was all set up for him to win, but his fear of Ruiz did him in, just like he blew it vs. Holyfield by being intimidated.
the shame of it was that - if I have my timeline correct - it was two fights in a row in which Oquendo was screwed out of a heavyweight belt. I think it was about six or seven months prior when he got robbed against Chris Byrd. Fittingly enough on the same card as Ruiz-Oquendo, Byrd was lucky to escape with a draw against Golota.
