I wanna say Diaz by UD, but given his come forward easy to hit style, pillow fists, and being somewhat of a front runner, I give Gatti a good chance. But the smart pick is Diaz by UD.
Agreed. I think Diaz just flat out-works him in this one. It won't be anything fancy --- but for all of the criticisms, & his failure to ultimately meet HBO's hype, Diaz deserved his spot on the world-stage for a period, & he was a better fighter for mine than Gatti. In an at-times exciting skirmish, Diaz wins 8-4.
For whatever reason, 135 just wasn't Gatti's weight class. Even though Diaz never had true one-punch power, I can see him wearing down Gatti and if not stopping him late, leaving him a bloody mess en route to a lopsided decision.
I'm surprised. I give Gatti a very good chance here. Could Diaz go through what Robinson did? Could Gatti not have done to Diaz what he did to Ruelas? I think Gatti would be all too happy to absorb the incoming from Diaz since it would mean landing his own body-shots and his left-hook. I think Diaz is hugely over-rated. His best win is over Katsidis. He lost to Nate Campbell and Paulie Maglinaggi. Gatti was better than both those guys, and better than Katsidis too.
I agree with everything you said in the first paragraph. The second paragraph I dunno, cause I'd safely say that Malignaggi would have outboxed Gatti. Campbell would have a good chance to beat Gatti at 135, as would Katsidis IMO. Overall though I'm pretty much agreeing that Gatti would have a good chance, and yes.... Diaz is one of the more overrated fighters of the last 10 yrs.
I don't know about Diaz being over-rated, guys --- there was hype around him he never fulfilled, but he's pretty down in the dumps in everybody's eyes as far as I've seen of late.
Agreed. These guys don't know the meaning of the term "over-rated". Anyway...I agree with the consensus and I also agree with Double L's argument for Gatti. The argument makes perfect sense, but I have to stick with the logical pick which is Diaz by decision.
I think given the amount of exposure he enjoyed, both on HBO and on PPV, he has to be considered over-rated. I agree the consensus on him around here takes into account his limitations, but basically, G has shoved him down our throats, and for the most part, we've complied. Therefore, he's over-rated.
Actually, he started getting more televised coverage once he signed with King. Golden Boy just kept him afloat, not unlike what they're doing with Rocky Juarez. But that would make him overexposed, not overrated. Kind of hard to be that, when he barely rates at all these days (and certainly less so when he signed with G).
