Lesnar got his ass beaten really badly in the last two fights. He took a lot of punishment and sometimes fights like that break a man mentally. Will he ever be the same again? Will he regain the title? I personally think Cain beats him every time they fight so I don't think he can win it back from Cain but I also think JDS beats Cain. Now can Brock take it from JDS ? Very doubtful JDS has very good take down defense and is the best striker in the heavyweight division which spells trouble for Lesnar. Lesnar's next fight will probably answer this question. I think he will be very gun shy in his next fight. I also think Carwin beats him if they fight again. So to conclude I don't think Lesnar will be champion again. I also think he's a loss or at most two away from retiring from mma. He brings the pain but he can't take it. One day he will realize he's too rich to get beaten up like he ends up being lately.
REED's Already Read Reports that Lesnar-Mir III will B Next... YES, Lesnar can Become Champion Again...Get Acclimated to Being Hit & he'll B a Different, More Confident Fighter... REED:hammert:
Perhaps, but i don't think he can beat Cain. He'll have to wait around until Velasquez loses and fight whoever beats him.
Lesnar is a puppy in MMA. The dude fought a former UFC Champion in his second fight and a Hall of Famer in his just his fourth fight. And then he fights two undefeated, highly, highly touted contenders in his sixth and seventh fights. That's an amazing array of talented opponents faced in under 3 years. Brock is lacking in many areas but the guy is still talented enough to beat potentially everyone else in the UFC short of Cain. Personally I think he handles Carwin in a rematch also. Fatigue issues like Carwin's don't go away and I think Brock can always get that fight to a point where Carwin gasses. That being said, Brock will never be champion again unless he can somehow learn to stay in the pocket when exchanging on his feet. He is a huge dude and shouldn't take a backward step. If he continues to cover, cower and fall when someone is throwing shots, he will never be champion again or even get close. It would be great to see Lesnar fight Nelson in place of Carwin at UFC 125 but I think that bloody, vagina-looking gash on Lesnar's face will prevent it.
Roy Nelson is also recovering from a knee injury and said he didn't even want to fight Carwin in January, he thought that was too soon for his knee. He said he'd rather wait for Brock. I think it might happen. It would be better than a third Mir fight.
I agree. Mir-Lesnar III holds no interest in my mind. The timing seems to work for Nelson and Lesnar as well. Unfortunately UFC 125 is now lacking a co main event. With a potential borefest in Edgar-Maynard being the headliner, that card may only be watched by 50 people.:giggle: Personally I think Dana and the UFC need to put JDS-Velasquez on UFC 125. That would be a fantastic New Years Day MMA card. And it's basically the same turnaround time Brock got after fighting Carwin. And Cain didn't suffer any damage against Brock like Brock did against Carwin.
Reed, do you think that Brock (who is VERY unaccustomed to losing) will have the mental fortitude to make a comeback? I see him being really hesitant after getting blasted so badly in his last 2 fights. Beatings like that alter a fighters career forever. Example: Ricky Hatton.
if JDS beats velasquez, i wouldnt rule out brock beating JDS. all these fights between heavies are toss ups imo.
As bad as Brock looked against the biggest and best wrestlers in the UFC, Cain and Carwin. I just don't see anyone else being able to do that to him, I really think the key to beating Brock is to negate his wrestling, which Carwin and Cain both did. I really don't see JDS being able to stop Lesnar from taking him down and he will not get up if he's put on his back by Lesnar. Brock will always have a hard time beating Cain or Carwin if he can even beat them at all. JDS could obviously win, his striking is good, but his ground game and TDD is not proven at all. Pretty much all we know is JDS can stuff a Roy Nelson TD. That's a far cry from a Lesnar TD.
If Brock has no fighting spirit, then why did he ask for tough opponents when he joined the UFC? He specifically asked for top opponents, and Dana White threw him in against Frank Mir---a still respectable fighter who was by no means a soft touch. Brock has fighting spirit, but unfortunately he doesn't have decent standup skills. If he can't bullrush you or take you down, he's in deep trouble.
He was humbled in that bout, despite pulling out the win. He impressed me but it was more due to Carwin's gassing than anything else. Two fights in a row with major adversity and a brutal stoppage loss doesn't bode well for him going forward. He looked mentally shot at the end of the fight and afterward.
If I was to bet on it, I would say "no". Once a guy takes a brutal beating, often times his mind softens up and he'll give in quicker the next time. He won't wanna experience that again. And its not like they can put him in with bums and expect him to be back on top. I think Brock is done honestly. 1 or 2 more losses and he's packing his bags.
