There was a line in the movie Heartbreak Ridge that has always stuck with me. Clint Eastwood told his rag tag group of Marines that as Marines they would now improvise, adapt and overcome. As men, fighting men, these traits would come in handy and build character. I don’t remember seeing Michael Katsidis in that movie, but perhaps he could be the inspiration should they make a Heartbreak Ridge II. For Katsidis has recently been forced to do all of those things and more in the wake of his brother’s death. Reports say that the two were close. I mention that only http://www.boxingnotes.citymax.com/Michael_Katsidis.html
I'll be heavily rooting for Mike, and I give him a good chance of upsetting the old man. My head still says Marquez wins though. Either way, the fight guarantees fireworks.
It's not often that a new member's FIRST post is a thread starter.... Audacity or Familiarity? :scratcher: Anyway...nice article...
Two class acts. There is something good to come out of either man winning. I just about always put myself in Katsidis' corner when he fights, but this will be the rarest of exceptions. I certainly wouldn't begrudge him the upset, though.
Agreed. If JMM has anything left he'll take Kat apart. This is perhaps the first and only time I'll be rooting against JMM because, really, I can't understand why anyone would root against Katsidis. If he had the skills to go with his fighting spirit, he would have been a legend... MTF
People think that because he lost to Floyd that hes done or ain't shit to begin with. Marquez will beat the shit out of Katsidis. JMM is too skilled and has incredible toughness to go with it.
That's what I think too. Unless JMM ages terribly overnight - loses his speed, timing and punch resistance- Kat will get broken down and stopped or embarrased. Kat of course has a punchers chance early. I hope I'm wrong, the kid is full of balls and fights like a man i.e. face first.
Put me down for a spot in your boat. I actually do think Marquez has begun to regress with age (finally), but ever since the Mayweather disaster, people have gone flat-out ridiculously overboard with how diminished they think he is. He is nowhere near as down-on-form as many have made out, & despite some drop in sharpness, should overcome the Katsidis challenge, in all honesty.
I expect JMM to win, but you know, we really don't have a solid idea of just how good JMM is at 135. Think about it. He's had two fights there, against the same guy, and while he won them both impressively, he wasn't subjected at all to the kind of physical pressure that Katsidis could apply. By the way, nor was he against PBF. Diaz pressured JMM in their first fight, and got to him somewhat, but he can't punch the way Katsidis does, and he's not nearly as physical. My current thought is, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see JMM over-powered on the inside, shoved around and tired out. I'm trying to think of another fight in which the same sort of thing happened but I'm having trouble. To some extent, it's what Nate Campbell did to Diaz.
diaz whipped katsidis easily. everyone is talking about how the kid has improved since then. i guess we shall see, but it looks to me like completely different caliber of fighters here.
agREED... REED was just about to Say that he Expects Marquez to Beat Katsidis Similar to How Casamayor did, Only EASIER.... REED:mj:
Casamayor is a bigger guy than JMM. Well, he's at least more proven at 135 than JMM is. Still, it's a good point. Give me a moment - I'll think of some comparable match-ups in which the smaller, more skilled guy was bullied and beaten. Not saying it will happen - just saying, it's a possibility.
You forgot Marquez's other LW fight --- his championship-winning debut at the weight, against Casamayor!
Katsidis is a fighter that I love to watch because of the WAY he fights, Even though that way is not very technically proficient. Katsidis is a fighters fighter. Win or lose the guy is fun to watch.
He has heart indeed as that last Latin kid punched the shit out of him and Katsidis came back to win the decision in a brutal fight. I like the kid and hope he wins, but he busts up easily. Katsidis is a gladiator.
