Roy Jones Jr. vs. John Ruiz...Arguably THE BIGGEST Fight in Boxing Messageboard History...

HUNDREDS of Posters (INLUDING the Likes of Double L, Free Ike, Orion, BoxerDog, Special K, KO Curt & Others) BOLDLY Predicted that Roy Jones would NEVER EVER Go Thru w/Such a Fight...Even AFTER Roy SIGNED the Contract AND Showed Up @ the Press Conferences, Many of those SAME Roy Haters Said "I WON'T Believe Roy's Going Thru w/the Fight UNTIL I See him Walking to the Ring"....

In HINDSIGHT, 4 of the Aforementioned Names have Flat Out DISAfuckingPPEARED from Boxing Messageboards, CHILDISHLY Blamed Jay Nady for HOW the Fight Transpired &/or the Other 2 CONVENIENTLY FORGET All the Pre-Fight Excrement they Spewed....

Ruiz was a bum. Why would anyone think Roy will not fight him ? That was a perfect chance to get a heavyweight belt. Fighting one of the weakest champions ever.

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Pacquiao-Cotto was a little one-sided to be earmarked as, "great," wasn't it?

  6. Hitman

    Hitman Undisputed Champion

Add me to that list. I didn't think Jones would go thru with it either.

I don't know if this qualifies but Carlos Zarate and Alfonso Zamora were both bantamweight titleholders but both fought above 118 for no title.

Pacquiao-DLH was at a catchweight, no? that's gotta be one of my favourites... considering the result hehe.

  7. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

as far as i know jones jr vs ruiz was at heavyweight, not at a catchweight.

  8. Roll With The Punches

Roll With The Punches WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

    yeh that's wht i thought

if it was in fact at catchweight then Roy should get even less credit for the fight :stir:

  9. Joe King

Joe King WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

    Winky Wright vs Hopkins:shit::shit::shit:

  10. Irish

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

Pretty much so. Hopkins....in years to come, will be met with a barrage of revisionist history which exposes him for the snaggle-toothed cheat he was and is.

If people are talking about Jones vs Ruiz...perhaps I don't know what a "catchweight" means in this context.

 indeed but Cmon Reed buddy I'm not trying to pick on Roy here I'm just saying it was a calculated risk on his part. Chill out

  17. REEDsART

    REEDsART MATCHMAKER

Uuuuuh, ALL Boxing Matches R "Calculated Risks", Aren't They???...The FACT is, Roy Jones was OUTWEIGHED by 33 Lbs Against a YOUNGER, STRONGER, BIGGER Man...& Ruiz was a LEGITIMATE Top 5 Heavyweight in his Era...

  18. Hitman

    only on the official cards

  19. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

i agree. that speaks to the quality of the era, if nothing else.

  20. Double L

    Wasn't even a catch-weight fight, was it?

  21. Double L

    Double L Book Reader

I don't think RJJ could've won that fight without Nady's peculiar and unusual treatment of the action. At the first sight of any close quarters action, Ndy immediately stopped the action and broke the fighters.

  22. Joe King

Joe King WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

    No, which enhances Roy's legacy:kick:

  23. Double L

Maybe. But it begs the question: why is it being discussed here?
