We know he is up there in the boxing stratosphere because we can definitely hear his punches as they land. But unless you are a diehard, it is hard to get a fix on exactly where he is. Most consider him a talented fighter who is on the verge of superstar status, but the casual fan is finding it hard to pinpoint his exact location.

The names Gomez, Trinidad and Cotto were and still are names that the casual fan can recognize. Why isn’t Juanma? Ask any Puerto Rican and he can tell you who he is. But the answer is a little bit different here in America.

Friends of mine, who generally know a little bit about boxing, can tell me about Sanchez versus Gomez, Trinidad versus Vargas and Cotto versus Quintana. But when I tell them that one of the fights I am most looking forward to is Lopez versus Yuriorkus http://www.examiner.com/boxing-in-norfolk/juan-manuel-lopez-waiting-for-the-sonic-boom

This fight with Marquez will make him a household name. Not a star, but this is the start.

I hope he earns good money before taking too much punishment. So far he's mimicking the career of Miguel Cotto. Will have that chin softened before reaching 30

As long as he checks those gloves properly, he should hold up.

Lopez is a good fighter but probably not great. Not pound 4 pound material.

    Lots of flaws.

I think a new trainer is in order if he is ever to fully reach his capacity.

    I don't think he'll do that though.

instead of embracing the best young PR fighter you hate him?

The guys is young and is already a two division champion while undefeated. Aside from Caballero he is taking on tough fights.

If your looking for the perfect fighter your not gonna find him. I just think it's crazy your acting like sucks or something.

Have you noticed all the great PR fighters have given him alot of support?

The guy is the best thing going in PR and he hasn't hit his pime yet. :fightme:

Yeah i see that.......but Juanma is a brutal unconscious KO waiting to happen...

He doesn't suck but he needs to get himself a NEW trainer that will help him with all his flaws...and he has a lot of them..but he will probably have to leave the island to do that...so it won't happen..

At the start of his career he was suspect of him...then i embraced him a bit...now i'm starting to push him away.....it's his style of fighting that pisses me off....his stupidity...that freaking right hook...that looping left hand...the lack of speed...god damnmmm HIMMM!!!!! :pissed:

The only thing that puts me off him is him ducking Caballero for different reasons.

IT would be weak if he gave Marquez a rematch instead of fighting Caballero in PR this March.

He is to fight Gamboa in June and he wants JMM for next September.
