Toney wipes his ass with Mora and stops him in 8 brutally one sided rounds that would be a joy to watch. He struggles with Maravilla, but eventually breaks him down. Toney skill wise is on another PLANET from Pavlik, and Williams..... and Martinez isnt as good as prime Nunn.
Martinez use of range & relatively quick feet gives Toney some difficulties. I can see that being surprisingly close.
The problem is Martinez despite being quick on his feet, and with his hands, he isnt all that hard to hit. And he isnt afraid to exchange too, which also plays into JT's hands. I think Maravilla is starting to become a bit overrated.... whereas the middleweight Toney nowadays is pretty underrated. Sure he was inconsistent at that weight, but when he was "on" he was somethin else. The version from the first McCallum fight, would have broken Martinez down.
Toney was always on with a guy who came towards him throwing. And never quite on when a guy got on his bike and made him lead.
This firmly illustrates why Toney being considered "versatile" is one of the most idiotic things imaginable Mora is shit, Toney knocks that nobody out Martinez? Toney struggles mightily in that one... even considering that there are fewer truly skillful fighters now than there were when Toney was a young man (No amount of rah-rahing about leap amateurism in today's crop is going to convince me I'm wrong about this) and that Martinez maybe isnt such a big fish in THAT pond, he STILL has an ideal style to frustrate Toney and bring out the worst in him... I do think Martinez makes enough mistakes that he will get caught with clean shots and its POSSIBLE that maybe he gets hurt enough that Toney could stop him... but I envision a close, controversial fight
