I don't remember a lot of movers on Toney's resumé at that time, but if Toney couldn't handle movers, he wouldn't have been undefeated when he fought Roy. He just couldn't handle Jones---at all.

  2. Slice N Dice

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

You say he hasn't fought nobody, but to be fair he just made them look like nobody. I think you must have forgotten about that.

  5. Roll With The Punches

Roll With The Punches WBC Silver Diamond Emeritus Champ

Whitaker never got schooled by a pillow fisted no-chin midget like Montell Griffen

  6. Jimmy

Jimmy The Greatest of Are Times

    De La Hoya

    Why?

Wins a world title @ super featherweight @ 1st attempt + defends it.
Wins a vacant world title @ lightweight + defends it.
Wins a world title @ light welterweight @ 1st attempt + defends it.
    Wins a world title @ welterweight @ 1st attempt + defends it.

    4 World titles @ 4 different weights.

    Impressive to say the least.

Nunn was beating his face in for most of that fight and he started to get cocky and BOOM

Reggie Johnson at the very least deserved a draw and he completely flustered Toney with legs and a jab

A good argument could be made that Toney was in fact NOT undefeated by that time, as both the Tiberi fight and the Johnson fight could EASILY have been losses...

anybody who didnt come to Toney troubled him back then and for the remainder of his career... which is again, why anyone who portrays him as this "versatile" fighter is retarded... if he's versatile, so is Joe Frazier

Knowing U're a NOTED CRITIC of Roy Jones', REED Respects & APPRECIATES YOUR Honesty...Most of the Rest STILL Allow their BIASES to Cloud their Judgements, even as Roy is Approaching a DECADE of IRRELEVANCY....

The Mere Fact that Roy's STAUNCHEST 90's & Early 00's Critics R STILL Trying to Tear him Down, Speaks VOLUMES about just How Great he REALLY Was....

Toney was UNDEfuckingFEATED & NO WORSE than # 2 in the World Lb for Lb, when Jones Beat him...The FACT that Roy SCHOOLED Toney was VERY MUCH "Surprising" & the Notion that Toney "Could Never Handle Movers" WASN'T a Given or Else he WOULDN'T have Been Undefeated....

Except it was specifically an issue of talent, not career accolades, I was speaking of...& in that regard, Lopez was every inch the equal of Jones.

He had two losses by my count and the notion that he had trouble with mobile opponents who didnt come right to him was a feeling expressed by many who accurately picked Jones to win convincingly... this is further cemented by the fact that the rest of his career firmly illustrates the fact... Toney was a born counterpuncher and a generally stationary one at that... regardless its the one really big Jones win of the decade... tooting his horn over McCallum or Hopkins is silly

Roy Jones barely lost a round during the 90's.

According to boxrec he didn't have any losses at all?

Roy was a Pretty Sizable UNDERDOG in that Bout, C-Dogg...Like it or Not, Toney had a "0" in his Loss Column, Until he was UPSET by Roy Jones...

I think Jones should get a pretty hefty serving of credit for that fight --- I do --- but the full story is what it is, & the full story includes the fact that Toney, at that stage of his career, was shifting ridiculous amounts of weight to reach the limit. He was drained against Jones, & it hurt his performance to some degree.

Again, that's only a part of what transpired, & I still feel it remains one of Jones' better wins. He dominated completely, & that was no mean feat.

jones jr. was less of an underdog after the weigh in, when folks were literally RUNNING to the sports book to bet on him.

There's a BACK STORY to EVERY SINGLE Fight that's EVER Transpired, yet Roy Jones is THE ONLY Guy that's Allowed to Have it Used AGAINST his Wins???....

Oh, c'mon, Reed --- that's a little extreme, isn't it? Jones is not some manner of unique victim to, "haters."

according to boxrec, Whitaker/Chavez was a draw, Ramirez beat Whitaker the first time, Tyrone Everett lost to Alfredo Escalera, Lupe Pintor beat Carlos Zarate and Lewis/Holyfield was a draw

    whats your point?
