this isn't another floyd vs. pac thread, but it's somewhat amusing to hear what the general consensus would have to say about the legend of manny pacquaio. I admit, Pac is great and his recent wins have come in a very very impressive fashion, but seriously, when was the last time he fought a guy who's actually coming in w/ some momentum? margarito - as big as he is, he had a brutal fight vs. cotto and got his ass severely kicked by mosley. if anyone paid any attention, this guy was in decline before the paul willliams fight. clottey - he also came off a rought fight vs. cotto, but at the same time, he's not very good hatton - got KTFOed by mayweather and almost got KOed by lazcano. roach said it best on 24/7, 'he's not very good' cotto - supposedly got fucked up w/ loaded gloves. regardless, he caught a beating vs margarito and the effects from it definitely showed vs clottey. also fought pac at a catch weight. de la hoya - looked like garbage vs. steve forbes and looked super weight drained. also an old ass guy who hasn't had a decent win in years. imo, the most impressive win was against either clottey or hatton. hatton because pac went in there and fucked him up w/ ease and clottey because no one ever dominates or looks good against clottey. he's looked less vulnerable at higher weight classes, but perhaps it's due to the fact that he's fighting less dangerous/skilled opponents.
So we're going to play another game of "tear apart the resume"? This can be done with any fighter in history.
Yes...now a days fighting and destroying 3 of the TOP 147-154 in the world...is just not good enough....
Since this is not a Floyd vs Pac thread, I am not bringing up the facts that Mosley had been on dramatic decline for long besides of one single victory, Marquez had been beaten by Pac and was getting old and Hatton, as mentioned in the opening post, was not very good and was almost KOed by Lazcano.
well you just did. but seriously, who really credits mayweather for beating up marquez and even the mosley fight, it wasn't much of a surprise that he dominated the old man.
So which fighter had momentum, thats the question. Of course Mosley is another fighter with no momentum so he will be next.
No, don't get me wrong, I do not want to make it perfectly clear that out of the best fighters in the world Pacquiao's recent record is miles better than anyone's else. That is not my point at all
exactly. at least when mayweather fights washed up or overrated foes, they're coming off significant wins. marquez - KTFOed juan diaz mosley - KTFOed margarito, who was also coming off a huge win de la hoya - beat up mayorga to win a belt and highly publicized fight hatton - KOed castillo in 3 rounds if mayweather fights pac, that's another guy coming off impressive wins sort of speak. for pacquiao, it will be the first time since the david diaz fight where he's fighting a guy who's not possibly shot.
It's ironic really that Mayweather gets bashed so much. Marquez who Pac didn't want none of after that gift decision in the rematch was Mayweather's first opponent back from a long layoff. He was coming off 2 big KO wins and a decision which most didn't agree with. Brian Kenny complained that Floyd wasn't fighting Manny because he was the "winner" but than said he thought that Marquez beat Pac. Mosley was the champ who just Ko'd Mayorga and Margarito who Floyd is supposed to be scared of and Floyd fights him. Not to mention Freddie Roach saying that he had to weigh in at 142 because he was "too good" and "better than Oscar" Floyd gets shot at for fighting Judah coming off a loss, but Pacquiao has been fighting guys coming off of loses for years and gets a pass.
:: Bear in mind, this thread is made by the guy who insinuates that Nazim is somehow tricking us into believing that Plasterito loaded his gloves.
What are you Mayweather nuthuggers talking about...... Hatton was coming w/ a 2 fight win streak vs. Lazcano and Malignaggi Cotto was coming from a 2 fight w/ streak Jennings and Clottey Margarito was coming from his comeback fight vs. Garcia... only person going into a fight vs. Pacquiao w/ a defeat was CLOTTEY.... :dunno:
Pacquiao has only been at 147 for 18-24 months?? It's not his fault that the TOP fighters there had defeats on their resume....nothing he can do about that.... UNLIKE Mayweather who was at 147 since 2006-07 and somehow found a way to DUCK/AVOID Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, Williams, Cintron...yet his groupies always have some sort of excuse to explain how/why that happen....
i also found it funny that people were shitting on floyd for fighting judah yet cotto was praised for fighting judah afterwards.
the crazy thing is that this Pacquaio resume being discussed here (basically everyone he could possibly have fought)..is what he accomplished AFTER beating Barrera, JMM, Morales :tick: the guys resume is amazing
who in the world could he fought that would be better (beside Floyd)than the list above? who could he have fought that would you say that he is fighting more dangerous and more skilled opponents?
Are you talking about Mayweather? Because all those "tough" fighters were at the top of their games between 2006-2009...at that time Mayweather was at 147 making up excuses to NOT fight them...while Pac was at 130-135...
So in other words Pac came late to the party...but he didn't fight those guys to avoid other competition...those guys were still TOP 5 Welters/super Welter in the WORLD....
Say what you want about Pac's opponents but the fact remains that he makes EVERYBODY look bad. PBF is real quick to make up his own rules for pre-fight testing. If he was as bad as talks then it shouldnt matter if Pac is on PCP, ecstasy, spanish fly or anything else. You say you're the best in the world PBF? This is your fight!!!! Wait what? Olympic style testing? Ahhh because we are in the Olympics right? Please. PBF's accomplishments will lack the boastful accomplishment of dethroning Pac. And thats his own damn fault.
i dunno about that but i remember saying margarito was on the slight decline prior to the cotto bout. he had some tough wars prior to/and including that one.
