I never liked the guy but I respected him. He was a true warrior. He always gave everything. He has been in many wars. He has taken all challenges. A true champion. One of the greatest heavyweights of alltime.
I have a lot of respect for Holy. A skilled warrior for sure. Don't forget a former cruiserweight too, he did pretty fucking well at heavyweight.
One of my favorite Heavyweights EVER....if he were around today who would dominate the Division.. He would Ko' Wladimir.....bust up Vitaly...abuse Haye...I think Vitaly has a good enough showing for a Rematch...even maybe a Trilogy. lil bro Klit gets fucked up though...
Maybe one of the reason I like Holyfield so much is that I never did care what he said...the god this..and that...whatever i just didn't listen and switch the channel...
Holyfield is probably one of the most complete heavyweights in the history of the division. He could box, brawl, rough guys up. He was pretty fast in his prime, good overall skills, good chin, respectable power.
i love this interview with the god references :atu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgNq5RCCvn8 :atu: :atu:
Around 89-90-91 I was a huge fan of both Tyson and Holyfield...and so when they were first signed to fight I was rather conflicted as to who to root for. Commander Vander was a true warrior...a complete fighter. An all time great.

holyfield was truly a pound 4 pound type guy. its amusing when i see ppl list either klitschko on a p4p list when they outweigh most of their mediocre foes. holyfield consistently gave up 20 and 30lbs
"and it wadn't nothin that... so much that i did, and eurybody knew that i was wash'd up but with GAWD i'm not wash up"::
LOL @ FERDIE!!! "Did you SEE him getting Tired??" Holy- It wadn't about tired.. it was about what the lord wanted me to do"
This. Believe it or not, this is about as close as you can get to the truth with Holyfield. Of course, the steroids were nothing without his bravery, but how much would the bravery have counted for without the steroids?
38 years ago yesterday holyfield beat qawi in the first boxing fight I remember watching, and it made me a fan of the sport
Holyfield was without a doubt my favorite heavyweight champ of the 80's & 90's. I still am upset that the prime Tyson vs prime Holyfield bout that was cancelled due to Tyson's legal problems didn't happen since I always knew Tyson was taylor-made for Holyfield to take out. It still happened years later, but then many argue that Tyson was past his prime (and so was Holyfield!). A true warrior that we rarely see in that division.
You can only look at Cooper Vs Holyfield and presume Mike is favourite in any matchup from 1988 to about 1990/1991.
So many entertaining fights Qawi 1, Stewart 1, Dokes, the Bowe Trilogy, Foreman, Cooper, Tyson 1, Moorer 2 He seems in pretty decent health too. Maybe a slight slur, but not too bad.
Holyfield is one of those fighters whose losses seem amazing and even more amazing considering his wins. I dont know if his wins are amazing because of his losses or if his losses are amazing because of his wins.
I've never been a fan of him either. As a Tyson fan, I disliked his holier-than-thou attitude and the fact that he had 20 kids out of wedlock...it really annoyed me.
