stinky fight, margarito wore him down and wasnt impressive. took him a shitload of punches to take the guy out. i remember thinking that margarito wasnt shit. i do know martinez wants to avenge that loss. he says he didnt even have a real trainer back then, didnt know how to cut weight, etc
if anyone's of the opinion that Martinez got lucky (let's remember that Martinez landed left-hands all night in the first fight), then why not Martinez/Williams III?
Paul Williams better fucking call Carlos Quintana and give him his rubber match then if he even thinks he has any right to a rematch with Martinez. Williams got Quintana'd.
Two things. Margarito is or was vastly better than people want to acknowledge. Martinez has improved allot. Mystery solved.
I saw the fight on youtube, and to tell you the truth, Margarito looked like a prime Jose Luis Castillo in there. Margarito is very good at cutting the ring and methodically breaking down an opponent. He took what Martinez had to give and punished him in the process. The problem with Marg is (as almost every mexican boxer) that he has no regard for defense and relies heavily on his hard chin to absorb punishment in order to get his hands in. The guy's been stopped only once in his career, and it took Mosley's best shots, flush, to take him out. He's a tough SOB.
The Castillo comparison is a good one. He's maybe a smidge below Castillo as a fighter (maybe not) but given the way people talk about him you'd think he was closer to the Yori Boy Campas level. The repeated descriptions of a guy with wins over Martinez, Cintron, Cotto, Clottey & a 2 point loss to a welterweight Williams as 'a punch bag' is downright fucking retarded. Embarrassing ignorance. The Cotto win was illegitimate, but what's really warped peoples perceptions was him being Duran to Mosley's Hearns, Frazier to Mosley's Foreman in that one. He could have loaded his gloves with depleted uranium and it'd have made no difference in that style match up. When Pac says that was the hardest fight of his career I believe because Tony's a low life but he can/could fight.
REED Thinks 1 of the 3 Guys that Actually BEAT Manny Pac should B Regarded as the "Hardest" Fight of his Career...Pac's Labeling of Margarita as Such is No Different than when Fighters Select a Guy they've Beaten as the "Hardest Puncher" they Ever Faced.... REED:mj:
You know what - fucking great point. One of the guys that knocked Pacquiao out or beat his ass in the ring over 12 rounds should get this designation.
Morales I and Marquez fights are Manny toughest fight....regardless of what he said. Yes sure Margarito might have hurt him but at no time did Pac look like he was seriously hurt. Maybe for a split second to the body, but then he came back with flurries so I doubt he was seriously hurt.
hardest fight implies most punishing. some of the smaller guys hit him more but that doesnt necessarily mean the fights were as punishing overall. the fact that pacquiao happened to hit those particular chaps less than he hit margarito should really have no bearing on which was the more punishing bout from his perspective.
Spoken like a TRUE Margarita Lover....Pac Beat the Living Shit Out of Margarita...It's 1 of his MOST DOMINANT Wins...No Way in Hell was that GENUINELY 1 of Pac's "Hardest" or "Toughest" Fights.... REED:shit:
depends what your definition of hardest is. for the guy getting punched that might just mean the most punishing, physically taxing fight. he did beat the shit out of margarito, but he got hit a lot in return by a 165lb guy who aint exactly pillow fisted despite what some may choose to believe.
