Based on the last year (or two) does Martinez deserve to rise to #2 on the P4P list above Mayweather?

Martinez's wins over Pavlik and destruction of Williams, are they enough to best Mayweather's wins over Marquez and Mosley?

Problem with the above argument are as follows:

    1. mosley was inactive for 16 months

    2. marquez P4P two divisions below

    3. Pavlik the linear middleweight champion

    4. Williams fought in prime at best weight

    5. Martinez two wins within calendar year

Yes, I think Martinez leap frogs Floyd. Floyd should not get to just rely on what he could be doing to stay relavent in the p4p discussion. Everyone is out there getting fights set up, even guys like RJJ and Mosley both of whom should be hanging it up.

So why is the former p4p--or current in his mind--boxer not even looking at a fight? It's simple, he's scared shitless of Pacquiao and he knows if he goes and sets up another fight without trying to make a Pacquiao one first that he'll look even more scared. And he knows that Pacquiao will consent to whatever testing requirements he throws out there this time.

So sitting around praying that Pacquiao's next plane to the Phillipines crashes in the ocean isn't going to get it done. If Floyd wants to take 2 year hiatus' fine, but he should have learned last time that the boxing world will simply move on without him.

Not necessarily, Mayweather could have fought a Cotto/Clottey/Margarito, instead of fighting lil ass Marquez. AND STILL TODAY he could fight BERTO and not get much shit for it...HE won't be P4P #1 but he will still be in the discussion.

But it now becomes more difficult to fight a Berto..since Pacquiao has agreed to Mayweather special request/demands...

Martinez has beat the top two guys in his division and just laid the next best guy out cold. Pacquiao nor mayweather jr have done that

So your response is, Martinez is P4P over Mayweather. Because, yeah, that was the question in the thread. If you happen to think he's also p4p over Pacquiao, well, that may be easier for you to say, given your loyalties to PBF, but it wasn't the question posed.

P4P is nonsense, but at this moment nobody else towers above their division alone the way Martinez does. He has just beaten the two best guys of the division and the next one, probably Sturm, is a level below

    Very true.

It should be based on who you beat not who you could beat. That's my issue with Floyd. Current and active fighters are mythical matchups due to his being so choosy about who he fights. The same is kinda true with pacquiao but at least he's active.

Manny and Sergio definitely top 2 P4P at this minute.
Floyd's gotta step up to the plate.

You have to also factor in Mayweather's entire career vs Martinez' entire career. can't just base it on the last year (or two). That's asinine.

I rate Pacquiao and Mayweather above Martinez because I think they're better fighters, pound for pound.

How did you come to the conclusion that Martinez is better offensively than Mayweather?

Have you seen any of the following fights:

    Mayweather-Corrales
    Mayweather-Judah
    Mayweather-Hatton
    Mayweather-Gatti
    Mayweather-Mosley

What does being "offensively" better mean to you?

Sorry I didn't actually say that I thought Martinez was better offensively than Mayweather, I just put that point out to see if anyone did think that that was the case, but I actually don't think Martinez is better offensively, but he would definitely give Mayweather trouble styles wise.

Martinez looked huge vs Williams and packs a whole lot of power and if Mosley can hurt Mayweather, Martinez can. Will be interesting to see, if Mayweather/Martinez happens, how Mayweather would deal with being hurt. Would he be able to respond as well as he did vs Mosley against Martinez?

    You've got to be kidding?

In an all time ranking you factor in their careers, not for a P4P ranking.

P4P is a what have you done for me lately list, you're only as good as your most recent fight.

By your logic you could still rank Roy as #1 P4P after being destroyed by Tarver and Johnson because you "can't just base it on the last year (or two)."

    No it's not.

What have you done for me lately is how you rank fighters within a division. P4P is a mythical list ranking the best fighters.
