Just saw the highlights of this kid during the Jackson-Machida fight and I was thoroughly impressed. Kid seems to have great timing and accuracy and the same type of swarming fearless style as an early green Pacquiao. Obviously his ground game doesn't seem to be there but it's been said he's already defeated a few veterans and champions and he is currently the FW champion and will have his UFC debut on Jan 1st.

Check out this clip and tell what you think. And just for the record he looked even better in the clips they showed on UFC.

i like aldo and think he's a fantastic fighter, but like many other fighters in lower weight classes, i'm sure he'll lose to someone who wasn't supposed to beat him.

I agree. If Aldo moves up each weight class and dominates like he is doing now against top opponents, then maybe. But thats not going to happen. You are never gonna see a flyweight dominate a middleweight in a more complete combat sport like MMA.

You know who I think is P4P one of the best is Joseph Benavidez. He would be almost unstoppable, if the UFC/WEC had a flyweight division.

How is he going to prove himself in the UFC ? He will still fight in the 145 class and UFC doesn't have a 145 class. The UFC 145 class is the WEC 145 class hence no new challenges no ways to prove himself. He will just be fighting same fights under a UFC banner. If he moves up then that's a completely different story.

Well you asked if Aldo was the Pacquiao of MMA. In the UFC Aldo will have the chance to do what Manny did, which is move up in weight and dominate in another division.

Many great fights and fighters wait for him at 155. In order to be mentioned in the same paragraph with Pacquiao, Aldo will need to destroy Grispi and and then move up and beat the top LW's.

Hell, who knows. With the UFC handling things now maybe they sign Warren, Fernandes, Omigawa, and/or Soto which could make the 145 pound division stacked and able to generate far more challenges for Aldo. Not to mention, Chad Mendes has placed himself among the top challengers as well.

Regardless, the UFC will find ways to put Aldo in tough, meaningful fights.

Omigawa is a foregone conclusion, and Fernandes is certainly possible. Joe Soto had some eye problems and didn't sign up for the 145 tournament yet, but hes out of his championship clause so he might be a possibility depending on his contract.

    Warren is highly doubtful though.

As far as a comparison to Pacquiao.

He's not aggressive enough to be like Manny.

Aldo is the truth for sure. We need to wait for the comparisons to Pac though until we see what he can do at LW.

His point is that weight is a bigger factor in current MMA because it includes more fighting disciplines.

    Do you dispute that?

The UFC is not going to create a 145 lbs class for him. That means he will have no choice but to move up. A rising star like him is not going to keep fighting under the obscure WEC banner if he wants to make some serious money.

Yeah, I think it's a pretty accurate statement. Doesn't make it better or worse than any other combat spot. It is just more complete.

The UFC is absorbing the WEC weight classes. They are adding 135 and 145 and I even heard they are creating a 125 class too.

    Mainly wrestling.

It's very rare for a lighter guy to beat a heavier guy in wrestling.

The second highest and HWs often face off just for exhibition and what not but they usually always lose.

I watched King Mo wrestle this big ole sumbitch but he couldn't take him down at all.

So I ask if people think this guy kind of compares to Manny and the first thing that comes to many of your minds is Manny's weight class jumping? Really, that's the most impressive thing about Manny to you guys? I was talking about the aggression, the fearlessness, and crude but effective technique, yet since he's stuck in 145 and hasn't moved up some of you with little flair for the imagination stopped the comparison right there.

Someone even said the guy isn't aggressive enough which I think is off base.

    He isn't.

Aldo is a finisher, but he's a patient striker who uses sometimes unorthodox but high reward strikes and explodes when he's got a guy hurt.

Exactly. His most impressive win to date was the destruction of Faber. That was a slow, methodically beatdown. He was patient and kicked Faber's leg nearly into submission.

I interpreted the question as you intended and I think Aldo is like the mma version of pacquiao for the reasons you mention.

The most impressive thing about Pacquiao is quite clearly his weight jumping.
