No, but let's be serious here for a second... in 2010, Martinez is a MUCH better fighter than Antonio Margarito. Margarito has always been a loser at 154 dating back to Santos... Martinez is the middleweight champion of the world. Do you not want to see it or something?
See i don't think Pac will KO Martinez, lets say with 1 devastating punch. If Pac lands consistently on Martinez's face and we see another Pac/Margarito type of scenario, the ref will either stop the fight, or Pac will win on points. Pac has shown against big hitters in recent fights (who have managed to connect properly on Pacs chin), good punch resistance and hasn't been down in a fight (yet), against the bigger guy. Martinez showed everyone vs Williams, that he's got devastating KO power. Pacs punch resistance will be tested severely if they meet and if they do, I think Martinez has the better chance of a KO victory.
I dont know about MUCH better. He is better tho. But that means nothing. The fight with Margarito wasnt close. Maragarito could have been better that night and still would have lost. Martinez doesnt pressure like margarito, he doesnt take a better punch than Margarito, and he isnt as tall as margarito. Martinez also never beat a legit contender for the title at Jr Middle. Who is his biggest win at that weight? And yes he is the middleweight champion, but lets be honest he beat Pavlik to get that. Same pavlik that has looked like shit lately. His biggest wins are against two slow giants. Three if you want to count cintron. pac is small, mobile, quick, powerful, a lefty. Martinez has never fought anyone like this. So yes i want to see it, since i think Manny easily beats him. But i am just arguing those who think Martinez is some amazing boxer comparing him to Marquez and thinking he can beat Pac. I dont even see how anyone can make a case about moving to the 3rd spot in the PFP category. Thats ridiculous
After Pacs performance vs Margarito (despite some people not taking anything from the fight, as Margarito is past his best), that he still has power to hurt the bigger guy and inflict alot of damage and has the speed to cause any top fighter major problems. He's a menace to get to grips with.
Yeh that's the last part I missed out, Martinez's speed vs Pacs speed? I think Martinez's speed is underrated. Margarito didn't have great speed or great movement vs Pac, but was still able to land. Martinez's style should prove to be alot trickier to deal with for Pac and I think Martinez definitely has the tools to trouble Pac alot and make it a close fight.
The thing of Martinez is that he is a strange brew, an odd blend. He's from South America but he's fast. He's a light-middleweight but he's big. He's punches hard but he uses science and angles rather than raw brutality. He's a great boxer but he's a southpaw. He's 35 but he's got a lot left cos he doesn't really have a tendency to get hit too much. In otherwords, he is not Cotto, Hatton, Margarito, or Oscar. He's not slow, pickled in alcohol, fighting way beyond his normal weight, a part-timer, coming off a brutal plaster-inspired loss, he's not been KO'd recently and had his chin checked, he's pretty much where Bernard Hopkins was when he fought Tito...battle-hardened, savvy, the bigger man, with plenty of miles left in the tank.
How do you mean, he's a great boxer, but a southpaw? Are southpaws in your opinion not meant to be good boxers?
So first Martinez has skill on level with Marquez and now he is at Hopkins' level when he fought Tito? BASED ON WHAT? Who has this man beaten other than two slow giants?
I agree, he's accomplished a lot. No denying that. But he's accomplishments are eclipsed by Pacquiao's and the absurd thing is Roy, with Floyd's talent/skill he should have accomplished more than he has, instead of cherry picking opponents for 6 years, and not fighting 1 legit, prime welterweight.
Wrong. It's actually you who can't see his arse from his elbow. First of all, how is Cotto in decline? I've said for every fight since the Plasterito fight (meaning that my position is not to boost Pacquiao's legacy, this was long before he was scheduled to fight Pacquiao) that he looks the same. Cotto has always been a very good fighter, nice solid boxer, but vulnerable, with a suspect chin, suspect stamina, and a lot of heart. He was almost taken out by Corley and Torres ffs. He's looked exactly the same since Plasterito, and has actually just posted a good win at 154. And about Plasterito, if you count him looking like the scrub he is without his magic wraps then yes he has "declined". It was you who said Plasterito used to be much faster with better defense. Sure, he looked so fast and such a defensive wizard against Santos innit ::
BTW REED and co, I have to say I don't see the Marquez fights as being remotely relevant to Pacquiao against Martinez. They are very different fighters, and not only that, but Pacquiao is a drastically changed fighter since 130 pounds. His style has completely changed to be more suited to fighting the bigger guys. He's more mobile, more agile, better defense, doesn't sit down on his shots, but just lands a fuck load. He's a better "boxer" now that's for sure. Marquez is more technical and skilled than Martinez, and has slightly better defense, and is more patient. Martinez is bigger, stronger, faster, more powerful, more unorthodox, also a good counter puncher, and almost as accurate. If Martinez wins it's purely because of size/power. Pacquiao's chin is legit at 147. But at 154 Martinez looks pretty powerful. And it's actually body shots that I'm more concerned about with Pacquiao against these big guys. Pacquiao has a big solid head/face, but he's got the frame of a featherweight, and I think it's feasible that anyone with the size/power of Martinez could KO him with a body shot. Pacquiao has a legit chance in this fight though.
Jose Armando Santa Cruz. That's is all I have to say regarding Casa and his "Form" at that stage in his career.
Margarito has no speed and no defence. Martinez has plenty of both hes a much tougher match up. Anyways this fight isn't going to happen Roach and Arum no whats what so i don't know why all the pactards are talking about it.
Cintron got up at the count of ten. It was clear he was ok to continue but confused by the situation and with the bell. He got up and continued to the end with Martinez.
They said margarito wasnt going to happen too. Again Sergio is slowed compared to pac. And he was hit regularly by Kermit and Williams. both men much slower than pac. His D isnt that great.
On paper it IS a joke fight, I agree. But Pacquiao has a very legit chance, if he can not get KO'd by 1 punch.
Nobody said it wasn't going to happen. Arum was desperate to make the fight. Martinez is much faster and more accurate puncher than Margarito. It's not even close.
