Damn.... hope the guy can recover. Its clear at this point that his career as a top fighter is over, but he needs to fight this to improve his personal life.

 

I never liked him but this is sad.

That said, a drunk Kelly did a better job with Martinez than a sober, but soon-to-be-intoxicated, Paul Williams.

 

Sad story.

 

Truth be told if Pavlik weren't a boxer he'd probably be just another denim jacket dude with a back pocket of baccy and a manageable drink problem.

 

Pavlik-Williams would be a good fight now.

 

I didn't really like him before but now I hear about all this, he just moved into my top 5 favorite boxers.

Last Time REED Checked, Beer was an ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE...Moreso, it's CHEAPER (ie., More ACCESSIBLE) than Other Forms of Alcohol...Growing Up Lower Middle Class, Beer was Probably the Drink of Choice for Pavlik & his Circle of Friends...Over the Years, his Tolerance Undoubtedly GREW, which Lead to him Purchasing More & MORE...Next Thing U Know, U're Buying a CASE of Beer Everyday...

I think its pretty much over for him REED. He's never gonna regain the form he had in 07, and the book is forever out on how to beat him. He'll only get MORE limited.

But HYPOTHETICALLY Speaking, if a Guy like Bika Shocked the World by Beating Andre Ward AND if Froch Beat Abraham, those would B 2 Guys that Pavlik would have a Legitimate Chance of Beating, Stylistically...

Last time I checked, I knew alcoholics and with few exceptions, they weren't beer drinkers. The ones that were beer drinkers were more like Harry Carey types who could drink a case while they sat around the tv all day. That's not Pavlik's situation.

 

Well unforuntely Bika has no shot whatsoever at beating Ward, and AT THIS POINT.... Froch is a better fighter than Pavlik, and would whup Kelly's ass.

But after the career altering ass whupping Froch gets in a few hrs... maybe it'd be a better matchup for Kelly.

 

Well, REED IS an Alcoholic Himself & Beer is his Drink of Choice...Also, like Pavlik, REED Grew Up Lower Middle Class, in the Midwest...REED Knows the MINDSET & FINANCIAL SITUATION that can Result in an Alcoholic that Prefers Beer....

Yeah, I've known plenty of alcoholics who major in beer. I even know one whose beverage of choice is Light Beer.

Prime Pavlik vs Frochy would be an interesting fight.

 

This could be promising for Pavlik's future. It's possible his less than stellar performances have been due in large part to his life-style. Who's to say that taking better care of himself can't go a long way towards recapturing his peak form?

More important than his physical conditioning (which no doubt suffered), his drinking had to have drained his desire and fighting spirit. Ge gets that back? As well as his conditioning? It's not fair to dismiss his chances to be great again.
