I was VERY impressed with Ward. He did an absolute number on Kessler.

Clearly much much better than we thought he was, that was the fight that proved he's legit.

But it wasn't particularly nice to watch. A lot of Hatton esque jumping in and holding, along with some butting etc.

 

Pro sportsman make money. Their objective is to make money as much as win, otherwise they would stay amateurs.

What don't you understand about that?

 

If you don't entertain the people, the sport doesn't exist on the professional level. Period. Why do you find this so hard to understand??

You don't get points from the judges or points in Golf or a goal start because your wife just left you or because you're kicking snow. And you don't get points or goals for being entertaining. If nobody watched, they wouldn't make money, and pro boxing wouldn't exist, and Ward wouldn't be able to make a living from boxing.

That's what seperates it from amateur boxing. So no, you can't look at pro boxing from a pure sporting perspective as you can with amateur boxing or any other amateur sports.

Boxing is as much business and entertainment as it is sport.

Boxing is a business. But it is also a sport. In fact it's a sport FIRST. If Ward keeps winning he'll keep getting big fights and keep getting paid. John Ruiz retired a rich man.

Theres absolutely nothing compelling about him though, considering he has no power and doesnt even really push for a KO.
