Or am I seeing things? I saw him leaning through the ropes and saying something and a white hair guy in the announcers table gave him two thumbs down. wtf was that?

You saw who leaning thru the ropes? Litzau? Litzau might have said something and Merchant may have indicated a result or an opinion on what Litzau said with the thumbs.

Larry pretty much sucked Jason's balls all night Hay.

At the very end of Katsidis-Marquez, Larry said "we must not forget the hero of the night....{I thought he was going to say Katsidis".....Jason Litzau"

Larry has a hard-on for white boy underdogs, make no mistake about it.

Some people had Caballero on their P4P lists. Is Litzau now in their top 10?

Litzau was talking to the HBO broadcast guys but Diabella was also in the corner and I think he asked Larry what he thought. Larry gave two thumbs down and you could hear him say "terrible shape" obviously referring to Caballero. At least that's what I thought.

No, more like Kennedy McKinney vs MAB, a bit too one-sided to be FOTY. I never felt Marquez would lose that fight.

FOTY might yet be Khan vs Maidana.

Larry Merchant is JADED about Boxing & He HAS Been for Nearly 2 DECADES...On 1 Hand, You DON'T Want an OVERLY Positive Guy Doing Commentary, but You Certainly DON'T Want a BITTER, JADED Old Fart Doing the Commentary Either....

    I agree Irish.

Funnily enough, even when Marquez got dropped, I just knew he would beat Katsidis.

A bit old, undersized and shopworn, he's still a different class of fighter to Katsidis, and at no point did I think Marquez would lose.

Still a pretty good scrap though.

In fact, once Marquez was getting up, you kind of had your answer to the only real question, namely what would happen when Katsidis landed his best shot.

I actually thought that all 5 fights were good. They all brought something good to the table. In my eyes this was a great night of boxing. I'll Holla 5000

Super 6 fights were both ordinary at best. Ward/Bika was tedious because of all the stops and starts and holding, and Froch/AA was boring because Abraham sucks so bad. Plus, the score cards (not the decision) in the Ward/Bika fight were bull-shit, begging the question of Bika could possibly have won the fight, whatever he did, without scoring a knock-out.

i've seen larry at ringside on a plenty of occasions. he's not a man who likes to be interrupted when while he's talking. in fact, this hot bitch once approached him at ringside to ask for a photograph and he flipped out on her and said something like 'can't you see i'm in a conversation?', but he proceeded to take the pic afterwards.

still not sure what litzau said to merchant though.

Apparently, Merchant was Giving Andre Berto a HARD TIME During the Pre-Fight Meetings Too...

Merchant doesn't speak fast enough to give anyone a hard time. The guy would be about to break my balls and I would still have time to gather up all my stuff, call for a cab, and leave, and when I would be telling the driver where to drop me, he would be just starting in on his first sentence.

Im sure berto got over it fast when he realized how much money HBO has paid him the past few years to fight overmatched foes.

Berto would have to be able to add zeros and single digits faster than Merchant can speak, and I'm not sure he can do that.

    Where was Lampley this weekend.?

Berto-Hernandez was a "So What?" fight if ever there was one.

Berto is either at, or near, ten fights on HBO...unacceptable (for HBO, especially) given his level of opposition.

But WHY Does HBO ALLOW Berto to Fight that Level of Oppositon &/or DiBella to Request that Level of Opposition???...Fuuuurthermore, if Merchant is THAT Put Off by these Matchups, Why Doesn't he Say Something to the Power's that Be @ HBO, PRIOR to the Signing of Contractsz???...

Merchant has Become the "All BARK, No BITE" Great Grandfather, who Bitches Incessantly to the Point that NOBODY Even Listens to him Anymore...

It's CLEAR that Merchant Doesn't Even Really LIKE Boxing Anymore, so U Have to Wonder WHY HBO Even Bothers Giving him Assignments...They've LESSENED his Appearances Quite a Bit, but Even Last Night, after a Fairly Lengthy ABSENCE, Merchant Bitched & Moaned MOST of the Telecast....

w/Out Knowing ANYTHING about Broadcasting, REED TRUSTS YOUR Judgement about Merchant Being Technically SOUND in that Capacity...REED's Problem is, Merchant's EVER PRESENT NEGATIVITY...

Merchant Seems to have LOST Whatever PASSION he USED to Have for Boxing...Now, he Comes Off like he's IRRITATED & DOESN'T Even Want to Be Ringside Anymore...He's Almost NEVER Impressed Anymore...

So WHY Even Bother Having him There???...U Want a Guy that's Gonna PROMOTE the Sport, Playing Merchant's Role, Don't U???...

Merchant announces fights. What can he really say to hbo when davis is in bed with haymon and berto gets paid handsomely to throttle club fighters?

In the long run yes. I think that's at least part of the reason Merchant is only a part timer now.

His curmudgeonly approach is can be perceived as negative to some, and honest to others. At least one thing i enjoyed from Merch out of Saturday's broadcast was him saying "whoever that is" when naming out one of the alphabet title holders.

Yeah, I didn't listen to the broadcast and didn't hear Merchants coments, but I'm not arguing the point that he's past it.
