Larry Merchant gave Litzau two thumbs down?

The problem with the "promote" the sport angle is that guys the company men like Kellerman and Steward just come off as shills to a lot of dedicated boxing fans, and let's face it, given the declining numbers in HBO's boxing viewers, that's pretty much all that's left watching their non-Mayweather/Pacquiao HBO broadcasts.

 

It looked like he was responding to Dibella, not Litzau.

 

Merchant is the greatest sports commentator in history, by quite a bit.

 

I think Merchant is the best. Some think bitter, but I think he was honest.

In regards to the thumbs down, Merchant pointed towards Caballero who was on the other side of the ring and then did the thumbs down gesture while responding to dibella.

 

I believe he called DiBella a whiner at one point. ::

 

I do appreciate Merchant's willingness to call it like he sees it, even if it's in conflict with HBO's agenda. I'm just growing tired of the whine in his voice anytime he's not getting exactly what he wants, or he's not being entertained every second of every round.

 

Kellerman is definitely a shill. Compare and contrast his earlier ESPN performances with those he puts in on HBO.

His commentary is also shit. Saying that Roy Jones was making Joe Calzaghe look like a "washed up Tito Trinidad"...and constantly pumping the "Roy is past his best angle" in the same fight.....just fuck off Max.:flip:
