Pettway Brown because it is the greatest fight of all time. Chiquita/Carbajal II and Tszyu/Judah because they are my favorite fighters beating my least favorite fighters at the time.
That's understandable. You won't find it on many Top 10 list either. It was just such an emotional clash. I had followed Dokes for a long time and was a huge fan since his close loss to Teofilio Stevenson at the Pan Am Games in the mid 70's. I hated Stevenson with a passion and Dokes battling him on even terms when most people were simply destroyed by the Cuban, was enough to make me a fan. Naturally after his drug issues and great comeback in 1988, I was really pulling for him to pull the upset against Holyfield. He didn't, but he did display the grit and determination that made me a fan in the first place. He gave a fantastic account of himself in a bout filled with back-and-forth action. It was Holyfield's first real test at HW and I doubt Lou Duva or the gang had any idea what a driven version of Dokes they were about to get. They got the very best Dokes and it took the very best of Holyfield to beat him. Holyfield literally had to beat the determination out of Dokes. Great fight.
For Pure ALL-AROUND Entertainment Value, Prince Naseem Hamed vs. Kevin Kelley is REED's Absolute FAVORITE Fight...If we're JUST talking about the Fight ITSELF, ANY of Roy Jones' Early Round KO's (Byrd, Serwano, Griffin II, Brannon, Sosa, Hill, Harris, Tate, Vaca, etc.) will Suffice... REED:cheer:
This is my 2nd place fight. Very close between this and Morales-Barrera 1. Naz-Kelley was the fight that made me switch from a casual fan to a hardcore one.
That's always one i bring up when listing "underrated" or "forgotten" fights. Some sick bombs landed by both guys in that one.
i agree about hamed-kelley. that fight is always a pleasure to watch. merchant called it the hagler-hearns of the little guys, but i thought it was more entertaining.
Today.... Cotto vs. Torres....tomorrow? probably Arguello vs. Pryor I...or Jones vs. Hill(for the domination)..or Marquez vs. Katsidis(just for the accuracy of the combinations from Marquez)..or Toney vs. Barkley(for the counter punching)
I can't do just one... As named above Castillo-corrales and Barrera-Morales for sure.. and of course Trinidad-Vargas all time favorites.. But I have to say Gatti-Rodriguez...Gatti-Ward 1 and 3...3 only cuz of the drama and heart of the broken hand....
Ever, it has to be Foreman-Lyle. In my time following the sport & having watched it live, my fondest memories lie with Morales-Barrera I.
Foreman/Lyle was fun. It was the first fight my father reccomended I get my hands on when I was into trading and buying boxing VHS a decade or so ago.
