That's understandable. You won't find it on many Top 10 list either. It was just such an emotional clash.

I had followed Dokes for a long time and was a huge fan since his close loss to Teofilio Stevenson at the Pan Am Games in the mid 70's. I hated Stevenson with a passion and Dokes battling him on even terms when most people were simply destroyed by the Cuban, was enough to make me a fan.

Naturally after his drug issues and great comeback in 1988, I was really pulling for him to pull the upset against Holyfield. He didn't, but he did display the grit and determination that made me a fan in the first place. He gave a fantastic account of himself in a bout filled with back-and-forth action.

It was Holyfield's first real test at HW and I doubt Lou Duva or the gang had any idea what a driven version of Dokes they were about to get. They got the very best Dokes and it took the very best of Holyfield to beat him. Holyfield literally had to beat the determination out of Dokes.

    Great fight.

Under that pretext, Starling-Honeyghan would be my favorite. Hands down.

Corrales-Castillo 1. That overtook my previous choice, which was probably Trinidad-Vargas.

  6. REEDsART

    REEDsART MATCHMAKER

For Pure ALL-AROUND Entertainment Value, Prince Naseem Hamed vs. Kevin Kelley is REED's Absolute FAVORITE Fight...If we're JUST talking about the Fight ITSELF, ANY of Roy Jones' Early Round KO's (Byrd, Serwano, Griffin II, Brannon, Sosa, Hill, Harris, Tate, Vaca, etc.) will Suffice...
