I think a win here puts Cotto back on the map! Its high risk but IF Cotto can win it the reward is great.:partie:

No it should be at 160 no matter how small Cotto is (or anybody who challenges Martinez) if Cotto wins I don't want him parading around as the MW champion when he would really be the 155 lb. champion

why not make it at 154 for the LMW title... catchweight again because of one pound??? Come on!

    Little Miguel has some balls.

Floyd should be making fights like this.

    Indeed.

It's just a shame Cotto is cheapening the fact by pushing for a catchweight. I'm siding with Mr. Jones on this one --- Cotto & his management are trying to pull a fast one on us all, here. On the one hand, they want the overall perception to be they're tackling the Middleweight Champion of the world, yet, on the other, they are stipulating unnatural weight-restrictions on said champion.

I still say it takes some balls, because Cotto is out of his depth & cannot beat Martinez, in my view. It's game match-making at this stage of his career, too game, really, & he has my respect for that. However, I am not blind to the reduced-value of the fight if the 155lb. limit is enforced...& Cotto is counting on people to forget about that in the wash-up of his fighting Martinez.

Agreed! You have to take risks to be GREAT! If Cotto is gonna go, might as well go out with a BANG!

haha, 155 just so they can make it a middleweight fight? why not make it 157 or 158 in favor of the CHAMP who's arguably the best fighter in the world p4p?

the funny thing is that martinez probably doesnt give a shit considering he can make 155 w/ relative ease.

yeah... i also know why it's not at 160. Can't one complain about catchweights anymore like every other boxing fan??? :crying:

Cotto has never requested any catch weight, but he cant allow Martinez to come in @ 158. He is just too big. They will probably work 156...........

After the William fight Martinez said he would have no problem fighting Pac, Mayweahter or Cotto at 156-157(not sure)...but it seem he is already giving in on the weight...Martinez probably knows Mayweather will never man up to fight him and Paquiao will be looking somewhere else...so Cotto is the biggest $$$ he can make at this moment and the most winnable...

Maricon is PBF who refuses to fight anyone. Cotto got balls challenging Martinez. :shadow: Cotto dares to be GREAT. Aint nothing wrong with that:bears:

At least the fights are getting made. The only issue I have with the catchweight fights is that they're for titles. Otherwise, I think they should be encouraged.

I think the problem is, there is no money to be made for Martinez in any fight at 154-160.

He already beat Pavlik, crushed Paul Williams. Beat Cintron, albeit not officially.

The only fights left are a potential fight with Lemieux down the road, a possible fight with Shane Mosely.

Maybe Pac, but Pac probably won't fight him at 54 or anything close, and Margarito but he obviously isn't fighting for a while.

This fight makes a bit of sense, but the fact is, its pretty bitch that Martinez could EASILY have this fight at 154 and it would be far more legit than simply raising it a pound so Martinez's belt is on the line.
