23, I think. I know he won a paper belt after Chavez (vs. Aaron Davis ?)... no more than one or two years later, he was getting stopped by Espana.
Taylor didn't become shot until he moved up to 150 and got a "Terrible" beating. Of course he wasn't the same after Chavez but he was still a very capable fighter.
Agreed. Taylor looked vulnerable in his title defense at 147 against Glenwood Brown. Given how he looked in that fight, I'm not sure why his management then put him above 147 against Norris. Maybe it was a "cash-out" bout.
Shot or not, Vargas has only lost to ELITE fighters, bar Mayorga in his last fight, who was still a top guy at the time. I think you need to a see a Jones-Green type of fight before you can really say a guy is totally shot. Vargas was certainly falling off a bit though.
shot is subjective. just because a guy is no longer elite doesnt mean he is a shot. somehow borderline world class fighters are labeled shot after a loss.
That is a bad comparison, because RJJ beat an equally, utterly shot fighter in Tito. Cotto beat a reigning 'world' champion in his first defence. Besides, no-one sensible thought Jones wasn't shot before the Calzaghe fight. MTF
I think you can watch Vargas from the pre-Trinidad fights to the one who fought Wilfredo Rivera and Shibata Flores and see he wasn't the same fighter. Obviously 'shot' is an over-used term, used more for effect than accuracy. Vargas was diminished after the Trinidad fight, he wasn't done as a fighter. 'Shot' is the last few years of Frankie Randall's career.
stop spreading lies. never once have i referred to either as shot. both were CLEARLY on the decline when your pinoy love interest got to them, however.
In Cotto's case no. Even since taking a beating from Manny, he looked better than expected against a bigger, undefeated junior middleweight. Foreman beat a pretty legit 154 pounder in Santos, and Cotto basically looked slightly out of his league. There is nothing clearly in decline about him. He's the same very good but vulnerable fighter he's always been, with suspect chin and stamina. Many fighters around the age of 30 tend to slow down a bit and lose some sharpness, but often become a bit more skilled and crafty to compensate. That's the nature of boxing. Floyd is the same. Is he CLEARLY in decline too? And in regards to Plasterito, he's clearly a scrub without his magic wraps. A tough scrub, but a scrub all the same. If you want to call that "decline", so be it :kidcool:
right. i forgot that margarito is on the same level as antonio diaz. a guy he beat the dog shit out of.:laugh11:
Yeah no doubt. The way he handled a near-prime Quartey put him on a level way above his more recent fights.
Have you got shit in your eyes, you cunt? Did you not see the bit that said "without his magic wraps"?
