http://www.maxboxing.com/news/promo...th-her-high-heels-on-part-two-with-kathy-duva Says Humberto Soto won't make the February 26th date, so instead, Brandon Rios may fight one of the Miguel's (Vasquez or Acosta), and that they may have a rematch with Soto and Urbano Antillon, either on a network or the Pacquiao pay per view in April. Arum quote: Article also mentioned the possibility of Yuriorkis Gamboa-Chris John and that Juan Manuel Lopez will likely in March, in Puerto Rico, on Showtime...Jason Litzau is a name "being kicked around".
Nice to hear a promoter (Kathy Duva) articulate the negative impact that cable networks have had on the sport. She makes a good point about the public no longer having real choice about who's a star and who isn't.
These fights are in addition to the much-discussed possibility of Nonito Donaire-Fernando Montiel February 19th in Las Vegas on HBO BAD.
I agree with the statement that fans have less say in who becomes "stars", but you could ask how much choice fans had in making some of those Main Events fighters "stars" back when they were regularly getting on cable in the early 2000's. The criticism is the loudest from those who are no longer getting HBO and Showtime dates...and it's understandable Duva would be upset when some of those fighters they helped turn in to stars are going to other promoters and getting fights on cable and pay per view.
No doubt. She's the one with nothing to lose which makes it silly that Kim praises her for being willing to tell it like it is, as if it's due to her integrity or honesty.
Vanes is one of the most annoying cunts in the sport. I would take GREAT pleasure in watching Cotto give him a methodical ass whupping, which hopefully ruins the grease ball's career. I'm not really familar with Miguel Vasquez or Miguel Acosta... would either guy be able to upset Rios?
Here's video of both: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3BfxzXfm7Yw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3BfxzXfm7Yw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lg1VVbPPTYQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lg1VVbPPTYQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Really? I like watching the guy. He is prototype Mexican style and it's neat watching guys who succeed with the hooks to the body instead of jabs (usa) or peek a boo (euro) or speed (cuba) or no defense (asia).
ok. usa boxers are the only ones who rely on a jab? peek a boo? euro? really? and cuba has a corner on speed, huh? your summary is an over-simplification to the point of being completely useless even as a generalization. where's puerto rico by the way? i'm dying to know what they do in your mind.
That kid Prescott needs somebody to take him on, hone the edges off him and give him some good training. He is the very definition of a leverage hitter. He'd fuck Khan up again, be sure of it.
l thought about puerto rico for a second, but couldn't come up with anything right away. I think their style is more technique type guys...similar to Cuba...but that leaves out Tito and Miguel....so I'm not sure. If you think there are not some styles that are more common from certain areas then you don't watch much boxing.
I'd favor Acosta's chances far more. Vazquez shoudn't be slept on, but is a volume puncher with moderate power at best. My hunch is that he'd leave himself open just long enough for Rios to eventually catch him, and worse without any fear of the incoming. Acosta is a different story, and I can envision the scenario where Rios would actually punch himself out. Not to mention that Acosta boasts fight-altering power.
Khan won't go near him. The irony of it is that Prescott's utter collapse since the Khan fight is being used by Khan's people as a reason not to have a rematch, despite the fact that ever fight Prescott loses, the worse Khan looks. Prescott would fuck him up again, and they know it.
yeah was gonna say that if there was ever any interest on Khan's part, then they've long ago missed the boat on that one. other than a stay busy fight, a win today wouldn't mean much at all.
Khans people will tell you that his footrace with Maidana proves that the Prescott affair is over. As George Foreman used to say....Maybe yes, and Maybe no. Prescott was and is a real doozie....tall, angular, plenty of speed, throwing slashing shots, as opposed to the stubby, pressing, blunt-force Maidana. Prescott made Khans legs go ZING when he landed the same jab he dropped Miguel Vazquez with. Oh, and he is also now going by the alias of "Khanqueror". :laugh11: How Khan can personally tolerate not rematching and obliterating a guy like Prescott, especially when Prescott has LOST to one of the many domestic British fighters that Khan never fought {Mitchell, Murray for instance} is beyond me. Much of the Khan camps magical thinking would posit that Mitchell was destroyed by Katsidis, and that Katsidis is not on Khans level. If Khan still had a decent British promoter he could have a match lined up with Prescott back at the same arena he lost to him in. Of course he burned those bridges a long time ago. Prescott still only has two losses, both distance losses, a Split-Decision to Vazquez-and both of them on the road. He is not jaded, busted up, worn down...if Khan really wants it...the fight can be made and a lot of people would welcome it.
Tszyu should have rematched Phillips. Preferably before, but even after Vince slipped, Tszyu should have gotten that name on the winning side of his ledger. It just helps to take it out of play when people look at your resume. Khan needs to do the same. Just to put an eraser to the blemish and force detractors to attack from a different angle.
