We can only speculate how well he'll do in the UFC 170lb division. The last time he was there he fought decent, but not top guys, and hasn't outside of it either. Seriously, who was the last real 170lber he's fought, Thomas Denny? Everyone he's fought between Ray Steinbeiss and Thomas Denny fight at 155 now. Smith is at 170 now, Shamrock probably should have been, but he fought neither at that weight.

What I'm getting at is that Diaz hasn't fought any good, legitimate 170lbers in a long time. He's had some good wins, and has fought a lot of natural 155lbers at 170. That doesn't mean to me that he comes into the UFC and starts dominating everyone outside of GSP. Put him in the UFC against some good 170lbers and he won't look as good, I'm sure of it.

Get real. In 2010, during his 8 fight win streak, Diaz beat 2 recent Dream Welterweight Champs in Zaromskis and Sakurai. I realize the Dream WW limit is 168 so if you want to split hairs, then go ahead.

And it's easy to dismiss Zaromskis NOW since Diaz exposed him but at the time he entered Strikeforce he was a huge favorite to beat Diaz and be the top guy in the division.

Nevertheless, both were good enough at WW to hold the Dream title within the last year and a half. Not to mention, within that same period Sakurai absolutely horse-whipped TLC's boy Aoki at WW.

It's speculation to talk about how any non UFC fighter would do in the UFC. But there is no way Diaz belongs anywhere but 170. He is basically the uncrowned Dream WW champion yet you say he doesn't belong at the weight. Unreal.

Actually, technically, Che Mills exposed him, but he looked good against no-hopers like Jason High and what not.

Sakurai has sucked for over 3 years, he beat Aoki because Aoki is rail thin at 155, let alone 170.

Being the champion of DREAM at WW is not a feat. Jason High was a finalist ffs.

Re-read my posts. I never once said he doesn't belong at 170, what I'm saying is he hasn't fought any good 170lbers recently. You obviously misread this:

This line was referring to KJ Noons, not Diaz. To make myself clear, Diaz absolutely is a 170lber. His last 3 fights at 170 have been against 155lb fighters. Noons, Zaromskis, and Mach are all better suited to 155. I don't care how many fights they take at 170, they are tiny compared to the guys in the ufc.

 

Given Aoki's fights in DREAM, I'm not even going to bother pointing out the hypocrisy of that statement.

 

Aoki fights all over Japan.

He also fights at LW, not WW. Good job.

 

Well, 12 of his last 16 fights have been under the Dream banner.
