I hope this movie can have the impact that Rocky and Raging Bull had, but if the reports of the Gatti trilogy not being mentioned are true, it won't.

 

Tyson had a pretty good movie put out by HBO years ago.

You think that many movie reviewers know all that much more about the boxing careers of Ecklund and Ward than they did about the wrestling career of the character Rourke was playing in The Wrestler?

I thought HBO was, at one time, going to make a Barry Bonds movie based on the Game of Shadows book...not sure if that's still the case or not.

 

Once the BALCO thing broke, I think HBO's chances of going anywhere near Bonds, McGwire, etc, really sharply diminished. It shouldn't make any difference, but America is too "Morals Oriented" for any major broadcaster to go near a BALCO affiliate.

 

The sequel will be called The Fighters and go into the trilogy and Gatti's suicide.

 

Oliver Stone should direct it and make the whole thing about Gatti's murder.

 

The book was about the BALCO scandal.

 

That'll be on the DVD extras portion of South of the Border.
