That fight just showed how crucial it can be to fight with the ref in your pocket. Put that fight in "Oakland" and it´s likely Maidana chops Khan down in the clinches, mauls him into submission, but with Joe "I´m firm and unfair" Cortez allowing Khan to hold on for his life and seperating them clean, so Maidana had to reset every time he had closed the gap, it made the difference in that fight. How can he not take a point from Khan for holding, but takes a point from Maidana for god knows what.

Cortez is clearly a ref for hire.

Took a point from Marcos for NO FUCKING REASON, and doesn't take one from Khan from holding constantly?

If that fight was in argentina with a ref on Maidana's side instead, he would have won.

The 10th was a 10-8 round if ever I saw one, so I don't know if the judges scored it as such, if they didn't then the judges take as much blame for this as not.

The point off, was a joke, but Cortez is a paid man. He did the same with Hatton and he did the same when Hatton fought Castillo. The man is bent, plain and simple.

He broke Hatton and Floyd everytime and then allowed GBP fighter Bernard Hopkins to hold, butt, throw low, feign low,etc when he fought Calzaghe.

    Look at the symmetry.

He got at Castillo in the Hatton fight.

Then he got at Hatton in the Mayweather fight.

Then the same "infractions" he punished Ricky for vs Floyd, he allows Bernard away with vs Calzaghe.

As I said to Reed- the power of home fighter protection would swing this for Khan, and so it was the case.

There isn't one avenue that aint tainted in this disgraceful sport, one should not be suprised by anything, infact, you have to expect the very worst at all times... in England for example, KBE Frank Warren most definitely had arrangements with referees,...he had a conventional 'nodding' agreement with them, we all saw the common ground,..Calzaghe, Hatton and Robin Reid were others I saw acknowledge the referee with a 'greet' mid-clinch, you know that.

Fuck me, Neil!! You agree with me, and there's a white guy in your avatar?

Who are you, and what have you done with the real Neil?:dunno:

I think Khan may have been broken, upstairs, if not down, by that. Maybe broken is too strong a word...but.....changed, a la Wlad vs Brewster, or Camacho vs Rosario.

Despite Cortez's SHAKY Decision Making During the Fight, it's SILLY to Suggest that Maidana Would have WON, had there Been a Different Ref in the Ring....

Since when was a point taken off for an elbow that hits the referee when he is breaking a clinch, and no elbow was thrown at the opposing fighter, directly.

the man is paid off. period.

In NO Way is REED Trying to ABSOLVE Joe Cortez from his BLATANT Bias & Corruption...REED's Point is, Khan CLEARLY WON the Fight...PERIOD...Suggesting that Maidana WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY WON IF NOT FOR CORTEZ, is Bullshit....

Well I can live with that.

I think the Assoc. of Boxing Commrs. should have a whip-around for Joe and just retire the guy off.

Have few fundraisers for his daughter and be through with it.
