great event btw, far better than last year garbage. Just disapointing to see Saki and Aerts barely putting up a fight vs the REEm

I don't see how Aerts was injured, maybe a little bit tired but Overeem victory over Spong was probably more draining to him than Aerts vicotry over Schilt was to Aerts( and both had a freebie in Mo and Gaki respectively ). Probably that Aerts, being so old, didn't recuperate as fast as Allister but that's the name of the game of the k-1 GP.

Plus, Saki was looking good in the later rounds of the Giha fight, the reem power and menacing presence probably had a lot to do with his injury making him unable to continue.

it was a one night tourney. if the guys that overeem beat were injured or exhausted, that shit was expected considering they all fought more than once.

i was most surprised by peter aerts to beat schilt and actually make it to the finals. he looked very vulnerable the last few times i saw him and thought he should've retired after the first whupping he got from alistair last year

You are right. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes you dont. Alistar got Lucky that night. You take a gamble with your body.

C'mon man. You serious? Saki was injured from the Ghita fight and Spong is a small heavyweight who was recently beat by old man LeBanner.

    All kickboxers suck really.

No use picking apart people's accomplishments. Hell, Schilt is good in today's era. Far cry from when Hoost was dominant.

He's still the Grand Prix winner.

Spong was a small hw, the only reason he lost to lebanner was because he seemed scared of him and weary to engage in the early going ( and a flash kd if I'm not wrong ). BUt once he found his rythm, he was puttin it on on JLB. Now, Spong added a lot of muscle to his frame, he's not small anymore, and he shown improved maturity by not being intimidated by Overeem ( who's even more intimidating that JLB ) and taking it out to him. Plus, with his new physique, he won't be manhandled as easilly as JLB did to him in the early going. But Allistair weathered the early storm and came back to whoop Spong big time. And if the stupid no thai clinch rule wasn't there ( and I think they'll remove it very soo ), he would have stopped him.

Saki didn't seemed 100% coming into the fight, probably a sore rib, but still, it's Overeem who shatered his arm with a kick. And he was looking very good in the late round of the Ghita fight

That doesnt mean shit. Who is he going to fight on such short notice? Nobody thats going to give him a challenge. Unless Barnett is up for it. But i doubt it.

I fear it's going to be the other way around, now, Overeem purses from k-1 will be bigger than the one he gets from SF ( or at least, I think so ). Unless the UFC offers him a mega contract, his mma career may be game over ( maybe he'll continue fighting a scrub from time to time but I wonder if he'll ever make a serious run again ).

or vice versa. badr hari is a bitch. he's fun to watch and very dangerous when he's hot, but when things don't go his way, he pulls a terry norris.

btw, what do you guys think of k-1? when i was in korea, the fights were televised live, so i actually anticipated in watching them and thought they were quite fun to watch. i went to one of the grand prix quarter finals in seoul and the crowd was very lively and the production (ala ring entrance, arena setup) was at a high-level (superior than that of ufc which i think its live production could be better)

Personally I hate a ton of production. It's one of things I like most about the Bellator broadcast. They are basically stripped down, void of frills and just ring walks and fights.

I don't think the UFC or SF go overboard by any means, but I can do without the production BS.

I like K-1. I used to watch a lot of kickboxing, but now it's just not shown on TV here. I used to enjoy ISKA back in the day and they don't air that anymore either. Wasn't it aired on ESPN? I would watch K-1 more if it was available to me. I'll watch fighting of any kind really.
