Reed is correct in one regard: in the 1950's, boxing was regarded as the "so-called sport of professional boxing".......it was gangster ridden and corrupt. Things changed in due course through Ali and what-not.

One thing is for sure, there is plenty of material out there, if the big broadcasting houses and promotional outfits would only take advantage of it.

 

I've been through 2 or 3 periods in which 'boxing was dying' at the same rate it currently is, yet the coffin still ain't in the ground.

The fight is on Showtime anyway for subscribers. So for those of us that have Showtime for 'Dexter', Hopkins-Pascal is a bonus. It's just another thing that makes the channel worth the cost.

At first I was a bit turned off by this fight. But for some reason I am now looking forward to it. Honestly, fighting a young champion in front of his home crowd is just the kind of situation that Hopkins loves to spoil.

There is a tonne of great fighting out there to be televised. It's up to the Networks to get camera crews and tape the fucking fights. It doesn't all have to be live- just tape the fights, edit the material, and have a one hour slot with an introduction and a sign-off. This way you keep people informed and keep them interested. Some of the decisions are baffling. This happened in the UK/Ireland too when we couldn't see Frochs fight with Taylor.
