...let's say an embittered De La Hoya opted to pursue the burgeoning Trinidad to 154lbs. in early-2000, leaving no big payday & exposure for a rising Mosley.

In place of that outstanding first fight between De La Hoya & Mosley, let's say the latter makes the more conservative climb in weight to Jr. Welter, challenging a prime Tszyu, who was division champion at the time.

What are the thoughts on this fight? The most compelling issue to me is Mosley's speed & brawling tendencies matching up against Tszyu's power &, more to the point, precision in catching fighters with his excellent timing.

Who & why? I lean toward a Mosley points victory, built on the back of activity & the swiftness of a blazing assault, but it's not difficult to imagine his style exposing him to Tszyu's arsenal.

    LMAO!

Sorry, Ramonza, I didnt read beyond the headline

I'm taking Mosley in this one, Tszyu wouldn't be able to sufficiently hurt him, and he would have too much difficulty with his handspeed... Tszyu would have to box him, and while he was a good boxer, I dont think he can negate the advantage Mosley would appear to have in outworking him and being the aggressor

Yes, I do believe Mosley's activity, combinations, & speed mark the difference in a close fight. In my mind, I can see Tszyu leaning forward with his head, almost as if peering through Mosley, calling on that great sense of timing of his, trying to catch the sometimes too-offensive Mosley coming in. I think it'd work pretty handily for him, for the most part --- Tszyu's greatest quality, IMO.

At the same time, he'd take a licking of his own, Mosley is just too quick for Tszyu to evade serious punishment. I like a close Mosley decision, in a fight more interesting than enthralling.

Yeah but you only get that if you read the first post clearly. The topic title is misleading.

Mosley would have beaten the living shit outta Tszyu at 147.

True, but isn't that the point of opening a thread?

    Why couldn't Oscar/Trinidad have fought a re-match at 147?

    Oscar beats Tito convincingly imo.

I was always big on both guys... but I like Shane here. He might even take Tszyu out with his usual late aggression.

The topic at hand is Mosley/Tszyu at 140. It's a really good fight. And too close to call. I think too many are imagining the Mosley who fought ODH at 147, when they should be imagining something closer to the Mosley who fought at 135.

Yeah but in adding to the thread's confusion, the fight would've been at 140.

More competitive at 140, but I'd still take Shane. Mosley's right hand back then was so fast that it'd be designed to land on Tszyu. Of course, Shane would get hit also, but Mosley's chin is alot more durable than Tszyu's. Not to mention the type of body puncher Mosley was back then would take its toll on Tszyu.

I agree, I don't really ever envision the scenario where Tszyu would've won this fight. Late 90's, early 00's... Shane wins, regardless.
