Fucking delighted that Hopkins was floored, and then robbed, from what I have read. And in Candida too. Delighted I am. Fuck off back to Delaware you convenience store jacking piece of race baiting overrated low-blow merchant.
Getting racial is OK as long as you dont mean it and hold your "own type" in equal stead. Hopkins has the backing of some very big people in the game, and is represented by an ogre of a promotional company. Yet he continues to play this role of a disenfranchised, come-up-hard fighter who never had no breaks. He won a middleweight tournament against a Welterweight and two of the worst middlweights known to man in William Joppy and Keith Holmes. Yet Hagler, a man with a real beef, was omitted from a similar tourney and was also robbed vs Ray Leonard. The man picks more Cherries than United Fruit and his performances, even against his cherries, suggests to me that, at his age, something is chemically rotten in the State of Hopkins. Fightnews tabloid-esque explosion on this nonsense is beyond me. They launch all manner of investigations into this, yet remain strangely quiet on other equally controversial matters.
What has fightnews done other than cover the press conference? Fightnews isn't a serious news site anyway.
They also printed the scorecards and published the rantings of Richard Shafter. Its all a little bit much. Hopkins, at near 46, is able to absorb shots from a fully-fledged 175lbr and bang to the body like a prime Chavez? Its all a bit much for me.
I was rooting for Hopkins as I always do. A draw was fair. The knockdowns were the definite deciding factor. 2 knockdowns in two separate rounds. People forget, that's usually a 4 point swing right there. Whereas you get knocked down twice in one round, it's only a 3 point swing. Just a couple years ago, B-Hops would not have been dropped by those shots. I was disappointed by both Hopkins and Jim Grey at the end. Grey must be carrying Bernard's love child. He was acting like it was Holyfield/Lewis I all over again. :shit:
That's a good point... Jim Grey was very unprofessional in there. He had to make it a point that it was a fact that Hopkins "won the fight hands down." Then he goes to interview Pascal and almost attacks him with "How do you justify saying you won the fight?" Wouldn't have minded if Pascal floored him right there. I thought Hopkins won the fight close but clear, but the draw is a fair call. None of the scores were outlandish, it reflected a very close fight.
It wasn't by choice. Hopkins drilled him with a couple digging left hooks to the body. Pascal was crippled for the next 3 rounds.
Nobody was saying Pascal won the fight. They were saying Pascal DREW the fight. Damn Jim Grey is a stupid motherfucker.
Pascal can say what he likes. Its not like he compiles the scorecards. Fighters always say they won. Fighters get knocked out and say things like "I was winning". Grey is a fucktard with a reputation for fucktardery.
i thought hopkins won 8 rounds but it could've been 7-5 resulting in a draw 113-113. hopkins was clearly the better guy in there though. he landed some good body shots. hopkins is one of the greatest fighters ever and the toughest guy in the last twenty years or so. from the beginning to end of his career, he's proven to be the hardest guy to win rounds against.
Pascal said he thought he won the fight when Jim Grey asked him and then Grey attacked him. I thought that was very unprofessional, his entire demeanor during the interviews with both guys was devoid of any class or professionalism imo.
Jim Grey tries really hard to be like Larry Merchant, but Merchant could take a shit in the middle of the ring while giving an interview to James Toney masturbating to a picture of James Toney, and he would still be 10 times classier then Jim Grey.
The main difference in this instance is that even when the fighter himself asks Merchant what he thinks about a decision or a potentially bad stoppage, he will simply say "it doesn't matter what I think" or "people don't care what I think" and then he let's the fighter give his thoughts, because THAT is what the interview is supposed to be about.
Gotta agree 100% wit this. Don't think this was his position to say who he thought won. Bad post-fight interview to a great night of action. And I agree wit the decision. I'll Holla 5000
Grey has toned it down for a long time. I thought we had seen the end of the guy that showed up Saturday night. This was the Jim Grey from several years ago...maybe 8?...that used to be so grating and unprofessional that the general consensus was that a boxer was going to knock his ass out during an interview.
As I was saying, Grey has a history of this. I never understood how he got away with it for so long. He should have been strangled.
jim grey sucks. he's always been condescending towards fighters and yet he sucks dick whenever he doing interviews at courtside during nba games on nbc. i remember hopkins flipped out on him after the second r. allen fight. that was a bizarre interview.
Fighters should flip out more often. You cannot make fights without fighters, they keep all these bums in jobs but get treated as if they were some sort of a bit part in a movie or something.
the difference between larry and grey is that no one gives a shit about what grey has to say about the sport. he's never really contributed to telecasts other than his shitty interviews.
I can't even stand to listen to post fight interviews when Grey is involved. He's a total nerdy jack ass that makes me want to jam an ice pick directly through my pupil when he starts speaking. I was hoping Pascal would hit him when Grey went with the "..... how do you think you won. He landed more shots, more powers shots. What did you do?" I short uppercut would have been 100% reasonable at that point.
Grey is a farce. Remember when he was forced to apologize to Pete Rose a decade or so ago? That was a beautiful moment. Toney knocking the MIC out of his hand was a thing of beauty too.
Even the Wall Street Journal is talking about the fight...not that the article will be all that interesting to most die-hard boxing fans, which is not it's intended audience. Just posting the link to it, and the scorecard (with notes), because I thought what the article was about (the scoring of the fight) was interesting to see in a paper like the WSJ...and becuase I think it's one of a few mentions I've seen of the fight outside normal boxing circles...obviously Hopkins' age made it more of a mainstream sports story. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704774604576035693230316106.html <img src=http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-LM852_Boxing_G_20101222212759.jpg>
