The 3/5 and 3/12 dates will be switched. Martinez is on WCB on 3/12 (presumably against Lee, as has been mentioned in this thread). Saul Alvarez will be on 3/5 BAD card somewhere in CA (I think Club Nokia). No opponent yet, though Senchenko and Matthew Hatton have been mentioned. Alvarez-Hatton isn't a bad fight for this stage of his career - just not sure it's a BAD-level headliner.
It's not like the Williams rematch was all that long of a fight. He's fought 14 rounds this year. He's 35 and if he had a chance to make some money against a guy like Cotto, he'd do it, so this isn't about getting a much-needed break as much as it is about a fighter looking for an easy paycheck waiting for a bigger fight.
Yup... although they could've kept the original schedule as-is and just passed off Alvarez as Irish. Announce him as Sal O'Valelly. More people would believe that than that he's 100% Mexican
Dzinziruk is rumored to fight everyone, yet doesn't have anything going on. Honestly, that fight would make sense and could be paired up with Martinez-Pirog. Involves the same two stateside promoters - DiBella (Martinez and Diveboy) and Pellulo (Pirog and Dzinziruk). Would rather see Martinez against Pirog (or even Sbik) than against Lee, TBH.
Well, I believe it's now been five full years since the Santos win. It's a shame the way he's still creeping along, 1-2 fights a year...he's already 34, likely to be 35 by the time he gets a meaningful fight in the states. Don't really like the idea of Cintron getting back on HBO, but whatever, if that gets Dzinziruk on HBO then fine. Hopefully it can lead to a bigger fight for him later in the year.
Hes still the same guy. That other cat must be a d level fighter like Andy Lee is a more dangerous opponent.
Andy Lee is Tentatively Scheduled to have a RE w/Brian Vera on an FNF Show, February 4th...It'll B in Ft. Worth, Tx., the Same Weekend as the Upcoming Super Bowl.... REEDopcorn:
pretty sure that one will get canceled once he gets the green light for the MArtinez fight. No way Steward risks a title shot, much less one five weeks after a rematch with a guy who already owns scoreboard on his kid
Especially since Lee hasn't progressed much if at all since..I honestly believe the same thing could happen again, theres no evidence to suggest anything's changed
:: There's a surprise. However after his 12 round stinkfest with Jacobs I can see why HBO dont want any part of him.
I'd honestly love to know what Top Rank really has in store for Gamboa, long-term speaking. Last year, they wanted to build towards a showdown with JuanMa. The moment fans began clamoring for it, they literally say "Fuck you" and insist that they're building towards a 2011 showdown at Giants Stadium ("The New Meadowlands Arena.") So what do they do to build intrigue and momentum for Gamboa - stick him in with retreads in fights that reek of HBO comparative performance-style matchmaking. Now, they're saying no Lopez-Gamboa in 2011, that it's not yet the super fight they hope it to be. So what's their first considered option for Gamboa: stick him in with a retread that reeks of HBO comparative performance-style matchmaking.
Rick Reeno has a little bit more on the proposed Martinez-Dzinziruk fight: http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=34071
Katsidis-Guerrero was mentioned...although given the punishment Katsidis took late in that fight, and what's gone out with his family outside the ring, I wonder if he'll come back in the first part of next year and take such an important fight. http://www.maxboxing.com/news/main-lead/so-which-rematch-for-pascal

Cordoba came to Dublin there 18 month ago or so and got wasted in an up-and-downer for the fake WBA 122 title. If this is the same Cordoba then he is meat and drink for a guy like Gamboa. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qJ3KQx5uZTM" frameborder="0"></iframe>
I haven't seen the difference in what HBO has put on the table, so far, and the $1 million he's seeking. It's understandable that he wants to get paid, especially as he's advancing on in years, but on the other hand, if he turns it down what else is there for him right now other than Martinez?
Yeah, but you have think going from Lee to Dzinziruk is a lump of coal in Dibella's stocking. But I applaud HBO for doing it...Andy Lee is not an HBO-caliber fighter, or at least shouldn't be. Lee is an opposing promoter's dream...Arum wanted to him in with Pavlik, Dibella wants him in with Martinez. Promoters will keep trying to get him in with their fighters...who knows, maybe Tall Pall will have better luck getting him as his comeback fight. ::
