The only logical next question, given the Whitaker/Mayweather thread. I recognize that for whatever reason, Whitaker was a tall order, even for fighters with massive offense like Chavez and ODH. However, I think that Pacquiao's 80 punch/round barrage would've been too much, even for Whitaker's craftiness.
You're nuts... the more you threw at Whitaker, the dumber he made you look and the more cleanly he punched you in the face
That's a sweeping generalization. Besides, making a fighter look, "dumb," doesn't mean you've won the round, let alone the fight.
Whitaker never fought a Pacquiao type fighter: volume punching, rapid fire, fleet footed southpaw. When you find such an opponent on Pernell's record and he made them look dumb and cleanly punched them in the face over and over, then come talk to He who brings Destruction and Mayhem.
^^^In fairness, Whitaker made a lot of fighters he hadn't fought similar men to previously look stupid.
Whitaker, 120-108 at any weight. The only time Pac's gloves would hit anything but air would be when he banged them together.
Until Pacquiao erases memories of the Marquez fight, I'm not taking him over a master like Pea. That's not to say Pacquiao won't change my mind before it's all said and done, the guy is incredible.
Whitaker and JMM don't have that much in common stylewise other than being good counter punchers though. Whitaker is much harder to hit but doesn't return fire with the vigor Marquez does. Part of why JMM has given Manny so many problems is that he was able to be slick, yet punch "with" him. If a Floyd-Pac match ever comes off it would be a much better barometer as to how Pacquiao would do against Whitaker.
Pacquaio's record of defeating southpaw defensive geniuses with laser guided jabs and tremendous inside fighting ability and speed is so glorious
but in Double L's world, he only made them look stupid, he apparently didnt punch them in the face in enough to win... this is of course, a retarded and unrealistic viewpoint
