Mitchell's idea... I just can't wait any longer.

Was anything on the level of Tarver KO2 Jones?

Nah. Pacquaio has pretty much taken a shit on any significant weight jumping wins lately, IMO.

So a fat can't-be-arsed-anymore James Toney ties for most significant win of the decade does he?

Hell, Toney beat him more assuredly and without any weight stipulations.

James Toney over John Ruiz - most significant victory of the Naughties :crafty:

Lennox's victory over Vitali, Hopkins over Tarver, Jones over Ruiz, Barrera over Hamed,

I think I go with Pacquiao over Barrera I. It was just so dominant and unexpected. Hopkins vs Tito is similar, but Winky did the same thing. Tarver vs Jones 2 is somewhat diminished in my mind because I thought Tarver won the first match. If he had gotten the decision in the first match, I think that would be a good pick.

Jones over Ruiz can't be mentioned without Toney doing the exact same thing over the exact same guy without weight stipulations.

I won't stand for it, you hear?

That's just straight hate for RJJ right there. What stipulations? You're reaching. Toney even asked RJJ for advice before fighting Ruiz. Roy was the man at the time and should be given his due.

If he simply retired after the Ruiz fight it would easily be considered the best win of the decade.

No, because Toney did it better to the same guy. And so what if Toney asked Roy for advice, it'd be like Tyson asking Holmes for advice fighting in fighting Carl williams, they have entirely different styles.

Toney doesn't hold a win over Ruiz though.

And as I remember Ruiz had weight stipulations put on him by Jones. If I'm wrong on that I'll hold my hands up, but I'm sure he weighed unusually light.

Pacquiao-Barrera I is as good a choice as any (impossible to decide on one bout, really). There was just no way...no how...no...wait...did I really just see that? Was that a top-5 pound-for-pounder getting pasted by a relative unknown for every minute of eleven long, lopsided rounds? I mean, c'mon...no fucking way!

Wasn't Ruiz' game plan to come in light and box with Jones?

There's far more chance Roy was taking performance enhancers than Toney was, IMO. Toney got caught taking an anti-inflamatory, it's about as egregious a case of cheating as Tyson getting stoned before Golota.

Again, the books say differently, but we all know Toney beat Ruiz (just like say Pernel beat Chavez though the record books say differently), we saw it and there were no roids involved to taint that.

    :lol::lol:

I've read a couple of places that there was a tacit agreement to restrict Ruiz' weight, but I don't think it was official. That was certainly the talk at the time, though maybe Ruiz really was that stupid.

Mosley over Oscar would deserve a mention here if we were talking about the naughties, rather than the last 10 years.

Which we aren't so, I'm just yapping.

Yeah, that one wouldn't fit, but Vernon Forrest beating Mosley would.

i vote for pacquiao over barrera in their first bout. few picked pacquiao and barrera was clearly on top of his game at the time. top 5 p4p.

i actually got even odds on jones jr. by decision against tarver in the rematch (unfortunately) and plenty were picking tarver after what occurred in the first fight. not really a big surprise that he won, though the fashion inwhich he won was shocking

Funny how you give Toney credit for the Ruiz win but none to Jones when:

A:Toney only moved up from 190
    B:fought Ruiz after Jones
C:had a much tougher time than Jones

PERSPECTIVE, Brother...Manny Pac WAS NOT "Manny Pac" when Morales Beat him...Morales DID NOT Beat the Same Guy....Hell, Morales was the SIGNIFICANTLY BIGGER Guy when he Beat Pac...Jones that Significantly SMALLER Guy...

NONE Whatsoever...Ruiz PURPOSELY Weighed Lighter in an Attempt to NEGATE Some of Roy's SPEED Advantage...Contractually Speaking, there were ZERO Weight Restrictions Placed on Ruiz....
