28611 Speculation surrounding when the UFC would make its debut in Ontario ended today when the promotion announced plans to stage UFC 131 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The news was first announced by UFC President Dana White on Tuesday during a fan and media event at the Air Canada Centre, and later confirmed by a UFC press release. The event will take place on April 30 and will be preceded by a two-day fan expo on April 29 and 30 at the Direct Energy Center. Ontario legalized mixed martial arts in August, and the UFC announced plans to put on an event in the Canadian province soon thereafter, hiring former Canadian Football League commissioner Tom Wright to head the organization's Canadian division. UFC 131 will mark the sixth time the UFC has traveled to Canada. Montreal has hosted three previous events and will also be the scene of this Saturday’s UFC 124, headlined by Georges St. Pierre's welterweight title defense against “Ultimate Fighter†nemesis Josh Koscheck. Vancouver, British Columbia, also hosted an event, UFC 115, in June of this year.
