While Chuck Liddell officially announced his retirement this past week, it looks like fellow UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture (19-10 MMA, 16-7 UFC) may be giving it at least one more go.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed that Couture has verbally agreed to face another former champion, Lyoto Machida (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC), at UFC 129.

Multiple sources close to the promotion have indicated the bout is far from a done deal, but negotiations are ongoing for the matchup, which was first reported by MMAFighting.com.

While the UFC has yet to officially announce any bouts for UFC 129, the event is slated for April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

In October, Couture cast some doubt as to his fighting future by admitting he was focused more on potential acting roles than future in-cage matchups. However, "The Natural" never claimed he was completely finished with fighting.

In December, Couture's lawyer and representative, Sam Spira, said the retirement talk was pre-mature.

In March, Couture is expected to begin filming for "The Expendables 2," in which he'll reprise his role as Toll Road. Potential scheduling conflicts are said to be among the few hurdles needed to clear before the bout can become more of a reality.

Couture is currently enjoying a three-fight win streak that includes a heavyweight win over James Toney at this past August's UFC 118 event, as well as two light heavyweight wins over Mark Coleman and Brandon Vera.

Meanwhile, after opening his career with 16-straight wins, Machida has now lost back-to-back fights. "The Dragon" surrendered the UFC light heavyweight title to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua this past May and then dropped a heartbreaking split decision to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in November.

I think it will. Lyoto will be waaaay too quick and elusive for Randy.

This is a terrible fight....look at coutures last few fights and see how he performed outside of his fight with toney

He has no business fighting lyoto, especially since he was close to retiring. He himself admitted hes out of the title picture so why even bother with a fighter of his caliber. Rampage wasnt effective as taking him down and keeping him there how will a 47 year old randy do it? And there no way in hell he out strikes him

Even at 47, Couture will be the best wrestler Machida has ever faced. Rashad Evans is a very good wrestler but he chose to strike with Machida and not use his wrestling. It's a mistake that has completely changed the way Rashad fights.

Couture isn't that stupid. Randy will look to utilize his superior wrestling from the opening bell. And much like Sonnen versus Silva, you might be shocked how easily the better fighter is taken down by a very good wrestler. Like Silva against Sonnen, Machida will be facing the best wrestler he's ever seen.

I don't think Couture will win the fight, but again, like Silva-Sonnen, Machida will be removed from his comfort zone and be forced to fight to win.

    I like the match up.

I think the issue with sonnen and silva was the fact sonnen is much physically stronger then silva, hes never really gone around and over powered people

Youre right, hes never actually fougth a wrestler that good, but at this point how much does he have in the tank

And how do you assume hes going to get in on lyoto when his entire came is to go backward and wait to counter people? that to me seems like it would go right into lyotos gameplay, to have randy run into something

Terrible fight, and one that Lyoto needs to win for his credibility and for MMA. What does it say for MMA if a 47 year old can beat a young, top-shelf light heavyweight? This is one of the primary reasons I've been rooting against Couture these days. Lyoto has excellent take down defense, and should thoroughly dominate the stand-up exchanges, should the fight take place.

The questions you raise are exactly what makes this an interesting match up for me.

Can Couture get his velcro-like Greco-Roman clinch on Machida? Will Machida catch him with a big shot on the way in? Will Couture be physically stronger than Machida at 47 years old?

I'm not saying Couture is going to easily win or even win this fight. I am simply saying that Couture style, experience and ability to game plan will make it interesting.

O well with all of that said, it is a very interesting fight.

A question i have, if randy win where would he go from here? You think he goes back on his word and fights for a title again?

Man, I have to think if he beats a top ranked guy like Machida he will stick around for a possible title shot.

How can he not? The dude has been a competitor for 40+ years.

And personally I think Dana gives him a shot without another fight. I think he skips ahead of Rampage and gets the winner of Evans-Rua.

How can he not? He said he wouldnt? other then that i have no clue lol

yeah, i think the public would really want him to get another shot if he beat lyoto

Not sure at this point the relevance of the fight but id like to see him fight rampage

No shit. It wouldn't say anything about MMA. It would speak volumes about Randy Couture and possibly expose Machida, but it wouldn't be a poor reflection on MMA.

If Couture were able to pull off the upset it would be very similar to Hopkins in the sense he would use his strengths, negate his opponents advantages and use a great game plan.

Nothing negative about MMA if a living legend can muster one more upset. Two of my favorite fights in MMA history are Couture-Silva and Couture-Gonzaga. The old man wasn't supposed to win either. He did and it didn't destroy MMA. It just made a bunch more Couture fans.

Of course Couture is amazingly competitive at his advanced age, and it is incredible to see him do so well at this level. However, I'm of the opinion that guys in their late 40's shouldn't be able to routinely defeat young, top-level fighters. To me that indicates a poor quality of talent.

If an old man beats the top guys in a division consistently, it means the top guys aren't all that great, period.

It would mean Machida isn't all that great. It wouldn't mean the top guys aren't that great when Machida has arguably lost 3 in a row now.

In fact, Machida is really one of the only winnable fights for Couture against top 10 fighters, because Machida often doesn't do enough to score a lot of points on the cards.

Everyone is pretty much in agreement that old man Randy would get mashed by nearly every other LHW fighter that is relevant right now.

Yeah, and Randy Couture isn't routinely defeating top level fighters. In fact, I can't find a top level win for Couture since he beat Gonzaga in 2007.

Which is why, regardless of the style match-up, this fight makes no sense. Give Couture a beatable opponent, and give Machida somebody who matters.

Couture doesn't continue fighting unless he gets a top ranked opponent in my opinion. Plus Machida really needs to get his confidence back.

I just dont know how a guy whos strategy consists of coming forward and mauling people is going to work against a guy whos game plan is to force people to come to him to counter them
