Quarter finals look like this. Fourth match up yet to be determined but I hope Overeem fights someone there. Fedor vs Big Foot on Feb 12th 2011. That's just over a month away! Arlovski vs Barnett Werdum vs Rogers
Are all of the above bouts signed and confirmed? I have read reports indicating that these fights are a possibility but nothing has been finalized as of this morning..
Whats going on with Werdum and rogers? is werdum still hurt? Surely Rogers should be ranked higher than Arlovski at this point considering he did KO him.
Well then at least tell the stupid little brat to do his homework before berating a poster who is going off of a valid source. :admin: Strikeforce targets Fedor vs. "Bigfoot," Arlovski vs. Kharitonov for Feb. 12 event by Steven Marrocco on Jan 03, 2011 at 6:10 pm ET "The Last Emperor" is returning – finally. Fedor Emelianenko (31-2 MMA, 1-1 SF) meets Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (14-2 MMA, 1-1 SF) in the opening round of an eight-man Strikeforce heavyweight tournament scheduled to begin Feb. 12 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J. In a second quarterfinal fight, former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski (15-8 MMA, 0-2 SF) meets Sergei Kharitonov (16-4 MMA, 0-0 SF). MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the news from sources close to the fighters who are earmarked for the tournament. Sherdog.com first reported the tournament earlier today. A third quarterfinal matchup between Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1 MMA, 3-0 SF) and Brett Rogers (11-2 MMA, 2-2 SF) reported as in the works for a March 5 event in Columbus, Ohio, is said to be off, sources said, though Werdum recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio he plans to compete at the spring event. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker declined to comment on the reported fights, though he said an "important announcement" about the tournament is due by Tuesday. Emelianenko's return marks the apparent end of contentious contract negotiations between Strikeforce, Showtime and M-1 Global, the parent company responsible for managing the Russian heavyweight. This past month, as heavy rumors circled about an Emelianenko vs. Silva matchup at a Strikeforce card set for Jan. 29, officials from Strikeforce and M-1 Global said negotiations still were ongoing and a deal was not finalized. However, the officials were optimistic that a deal was closer than ever. "We are really hoping that we can finalize things as soon as possible," M-1 representative Evgeni Kogan then told MMAjunkie.com. "We have been steadily working toward an agreement. And I think we are closer to it now than we have been in the past." Emelianenko has not competed since he suffered a shocking submission loss to Werdum at "Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum" earlier this year. A rematch between the two appeared to be in the works before Werdum underwent surgery for a damaged elbow and was put on the bench until early next year. Emelianenko previously had flirted with the possibility of retirement, but the loss to Werdum ultimately stoked his competitive fires. In an August interview with M-1 Global's website, he hinted that a new contract with Strikeforce could last for up to four to six fights, though the terms of Emelianenko's new deal could not be verified. This is very retarded I must say. Overeem Werdum and Fedor on the same side ??? This is dumb dumb dumb !! Overeem Werdum should be on the right side!! They got all their best fighters on one side ? WTF!!!! This will make for a lame and anti climatic final ! Whoever came up with it fuck you
Fedor beats big foot Ovreem beats Werdum Kharitonov beats Arlovski Barnett beats Rogers Overeem beats Fedor Barnett beats Kharitonov Overeem beats Barnett
This line up makes me so mad !! They should have done it like this On one side we would have Fedor vs Big Foot (an easy fight for Fedor. Well easy on paper anyway and it would lead to recapturing his superman aura) Werdum vs Rogers (An easy fight for Werdum which would nicely set up a rematch against Fedor in the semi finals) On the other side Overeem vs Kharitonov (Playing up the angle of Kharitonov being the last man to beat Overeem) Arlovski vs Barnett (Filler fight in my mind. Barnett should win so Barnett vs Overeem in semis would a pretty interesting fight and hell even if somehow Arlovski wins he would make a great addition to Overeem's highlight knockouts reel) So in the end if everything went right you would have Fedor vs Overeem in the finals! But nooooooooo we have to have this crap....
I can't take Bigfoot seriously anymore after that last fight. He's a joke that almost got stopped by Mike fucking Kyle, a late replacement and a mediocre LHW. Fedor will murder him in 1
that'S my only complaint against the tournament. the 4 best fighters of the tournament are on the same side of the bracket ( you could argue for Barnett thought ). Still, should make for some amazing fights and it will crown the number 1 hw imo ( unless someone makes some spectacular statement in the the UFC hw division )
Has anyone heard Overeem confirm he is fighting in any of this? Just curious. He doesn't have the greatest track record for actually showing up for SF fights.
My guess is the tournament hits a snag or two and falls apart. One thing to watch for is whether or not Barnett can get licensed as well as Overeem's involvement in K-1.
the next k-1 tourney probably won't start for a while. not sure how the ratings were from the last tourney. guys like hari and bonjansky weren't even included and old ass peter aerts was in the final again. i'm hoping that overeem doesn't waste his prime years turning down significant mma fights. i think he has a damn good chance at beating both fedor and wendrum in this proposed tourney.
This tournament running to completion is about as likely as TLC getting laid without an exchange of cash beforehand.
i, like most others, agree that this tourney probably won't come off. anywho, who's the nitwit matchmaker who proposed that wendrum, fedor and overeem are all on the same side of the bracket? coker must be a mook to approve of such.
It's crazy. Your top 2 seeds would be Overeem and Werdum and they fight in the first round. And then your 3rd seed, Fedor, faces the winner in the semi final.
I thought the same thing when I was 18. But with age comes wisdom, and one thing you will come to realize, one way or another, you are going to pay for it. Believe that.:kidcool:
