"Nobody outboxes a prime Thomas Hearns"

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Jan 4, 2011.

  1. Fixed.

I've said repeatedly that hearns would outbox Mayweather because of styles.

  2. Don't pretend you find this funny.

    THANK YOU!

Ive been saying this for years

McCrory made Hearns look like Tex Cobb in the chin department

  6. My point is:

Could Hearns outbox guys whom he didn't have the reach and speed advantage over?

  7. McCallum McCrory has no bearing on what McCallum-Hearns would look like.

Frazier and Norton could be called poor mans Foremans, but Ali had an easier time with Foreman.

Some boxing 101 for you charlie..

At middleweight I can see several people outboxing Hearns, but not at welterweight.

At welterweight Hearns has obscene reach and power, a good jab, and very fast hands.

Floyd? No fucking way. As incredible as Floyd's defense is, he'd be fighting a guy with a few inches in height, arms twice as long, and FASTER hands at welterweight. A much harder punch too, that's going to have some effect even as a glancing blow or partially blocked.

Hearns weakness was chin and stamina, and big fighters that could outmuscle him and take his shots.

Floyd would have no chance against 147 Hearns, it's an awful match for him.

It's VERY funny. Maybe not to a Floyd groupie like you, but it's not like this is the first time your fan boy mentality has blinded you.

  10. I tend to agree. Hearns is a bad stylistic matchup for Floyd t 147..he's too big, tall rangy and fast for Mayweather.

But people have claimed that Hearns even at Middleweight was impossible to outbox. I disagree.

  11. You don't think it's funny, because you know I've repeatedly said that Hearns would beat Floyd at 147lbs. You're just adding an emoticon for the sake of it, old man.

What's really funny is your pathetic attempts to claim to know what I am thinking. I'm not sure what is more funny...the thought of Floyd outboxing Hearns, or the thought that Floyd would even make the move the 147 if the likes of Hearns and Leonard as co-champs.

  13. boring.

You know that I've never claimed that Floyd beats either Leonard or Hearns at 147lbs...especially Hearns.

Secondly, whether or not Mayweather would have fought Leonard or hearns is conjecture and completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. You're going senile old man.

Could Floyd outbox guys if he ahd only one hand?

    what is your point?

could Diego Maradona score goals if he was painfully slow and suffered from pituatary gigantism?

Hearns WAS tall and he WAS fast, those attrributes are PART of what made outboxing him IMPOSSIBLE

taking them away is missing the point to an unbelievable degree

    no, they couldnt

they shared NOTHING in common stylistically

    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

  17. Please. They were both powerful pressure fighters that shared a cross arm sort of defense with Foreman. Norton, in particular, was about the same height as Foreman. If McCrory is like Hearns, then Norton is like Foreman. Simple.

Didn't McCrory have the same trainer, build and style as Hearns though?

The same trainer that said Tommy didn't want any part of McCallum.

  21. McCrory's style was nothing like Hearns'. He had a different way of moving, different way of punching. They were just the same height and both wore yellow trunks! :Giggle:

He was no more similar to Hearns than Norton was to Foreman.

And both trained together in the same gym with the same trainer. :dunno:

  23. So?

Both Frazier and Bowe were trained by Eddie Futch. Perhaps you think they have identical styles.

For that matter, McCallum himself was also at Kronk until Manny fucked him and matched Hearns up with Duran instead of him.

McCallum got his revenge by beating McCrory, the only Kronk fighter Manny would risk against the Body Snatcher. My favorite part of the fight was Mike running over to Manny immediately after the stoppage and letting Manny know he owned him..

But could Hearns be outboxed if he wasn't a boxer but was in fact a senile 80 yr old woman with a colostomy bag?

I think perhaps he could be.

An extreme example but accurate at demonstrating the major flaw in that type of arguement.

  30. They are not...but they can be called "poor man's versions" in a certain context, IF someone wants to call mccrory a poor man's Hearns....or Castillo a poor man's chavez.
