...Diosbelys Hurtado at 140lbs. We haven't seen Marquez at this weight, & only once, in a fight not particularly telling, have we seen him above here. How would he fare stepping up from his 135lb. Championship tenure to face the Hurtado who scrapped valiantly with Tszyu, & came within a whisker of defeating Whitaker?
a prime jose luis castillo won a workman-like decision over a guy micky ward KOed w/ a single body shot in less than a round!!!
The biggest thing I remember about Floyd-JMM was the boxing media's hope that it would crush whatever UFC event was airing against it on PPV, and that it came true. Other than that, it was viewed as Floyd's comeback fight, and a great performance against a smaller (albeit great) fighter moving up in weight. As steve_dave noted, very little P4P hype surrounding it, beyond the promotion itself. No different than, say Shumenov's team selling Joppy's credentials as a viable replacement opponent with the constant "former three-time world champion" reference
well then what the fuck else are we talking about? what this means is that Steve Dave's comment, "who other than the promotion hyped this fight as more than it was," is a complete nonsense. because in any fight, outside of the things i listed, there's no, "hype" about fights.
Who in the media hyped it as a pound-for-pound showdown? Honestly, I don't remember any respectable boxing outlet taking this matchup very serious. So, no, it's not accurate to say that aside from the entities you listed that there's no hype.
many picked JMM to win. and yet, JMM was a great featherweight, a great junior light-weight, a pretty good light-weight and a non-threat at any weight above that. It was a sham. A sham !!! The very fact it was on PPV makes it over-hyped, it's significance highly over-stated, and the supposed challenge to PBF completely exaggerated. It'd be like putting PBF in with Freddy Hernandez and putting it on PPV - and even then at least Hernandez would've had the strength to not get bullied by that fucking weasel sociopathic bully-fuck. What a bully. Oscar should've kicked his ass instead of letting him win the way he did.
Wow. Two whole pages & hardly a single prediction on the actual fight. I guess that's just the power of Mayweather (never in the original topic) to ignite debate :dunno:
