1. Polarizing film - You love it or you hate it.

I'm one of those that love it.

I get the hate: Crazy camera work in a comic book style, men with Goat heads and all sorts of other madness....but leaving that aside this film is the best depiction of ancient Greek warfare to date....and had some truly badassery moments in it.

    Great characters

Also, many Great lines, for example:

"Goodbye my love." He doesn't say it. There's no room for softness... not in Sparta. No place for weakness. Only the hard and strong may call themselves Spartans. Only the hard, only the strong.

The film "Troy" Should have incorporated this type of fight choreography and depiction of battle. When you read the Iliad you picture that type of stuff seen in 300 and not Troy.

Leonidas was a kick ass character. Obviously not as formidable as Achilles...but he had tremendous presence on screen.

I'd rather sit through Avatar AND Man in the Iron Mask than ever watch 300 again.

    Rubbish movie!

    Love "300".
Sure it's stylized homoerotic nonsense, but it's still fucking great. :bears:

Sequel was trash though. Only Zack Snyder can really get away with that style of film-making effectively.

300 is one of my favorite films. Zack Snyder was on a roll in his earlier films (Dawn of the Dead, 300 & Watchmen), before he started falling apart (Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, BvS:DoJ). What I liked was that it was a faithful adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel. a different director would have said, "This is based on an historical event, lets make it REALISTIC!'. Snyder understood that the right approach was to bring the graphic novel panels to the screen in live action form. and it worked!

  5. "Our arrows will blot out the sun"
"Then we'll fight in the shade"

"Zeus stabs the sky with Thunderbolts and batters the Persian ships with hurricane winds. Glorious. Only one among us keeps his Spartan reserve. Only he. Only our King."

I just don't know how people can't appreciate this film.

  6. Nobleart

I hear it's Clogg's favorite film about Grecian History. Better then even any documentary he could watch on the subject.

He once told me he had a secret crush on Gerard Butler's Scottish accent. Not Gerard Butler himself............just his accent.

  7. "Day wears on we lose few but each felled is a friend. And upon seeing the headless body of his own young son the Captain breaks rank, he goes wild...blood drunk"

"You bring only this handful of soldiers against Xerxes? Seems I was wrong to expect Sparta's commitment to match our own.
Doesn't it? You there what is your profession?
    I'm a Potter, sir
And you ...Arcadian what is your profession?
    Sculptor Sir
    And you?
    Blacksmith.

    Spartans!!! What is your profession?

    [Spears raised in unision]

    Awoo Awoo Awoo!!

See old friend...I brought more soldiers than you did."

    Baaaad man!

I'm not at either pole, tbh- I thought it was ok. The kinda film where novelty value contributes quite a lot so it doesn't have much rewatch value. I liked the 'RIS ISH SPARRTA!' bit in the Glesga accent, made me feel like I was oot on the toon.

  15. To me it sounded like...

    "Thes es Sparrta!!"

I've probably exagerated it a few notches in my memory its a while since I saw it. In my mind the spear throw at the end went like this: 'Xerxes! Yeeeeour teas ooot!'
