Whats his future look like at 147? Other than his very suspect jaw, he's pretty talented. He kinda reminds me of a VERY poor man's Terry Norris.
He's alot better than the last time I saw him.I think he's good enough too win a trinket but the belt the Ring gives out will be alot tougher to win.
He looked well last night vs a game and determined professional fighter, a gatekeeper in the division. I was very impressed by Andre's stamina last night as well as he turned up the already sizzling pace and took some good shots and just outmanned Estrada.
He has some nice speed. Some of his combos were crazy. He took some good shots too so his chin can't be too bad. If he wasn't at 147 hed be a champion for sure. He is definately a contender at 147.
Interesting fighter. Seems a little short for the division so we'll see how he does versus a quality fighter with a decent jab. Right now he reminds me a bit of a poor man's version of Shane Mosley.
I agree he's too short, and I personally think he should shed some of his muscle and fight either 1 or 2 divisions south of 147. He'll never dominate WW and it's something he should be working up too, not starting at. There are things about him that remind me of Mosley, but moreso he reminds me of Judah because like Judah he's more flash than substance.
Agreed with Nobleart on him being short for the division. He does have good hand speed, puts together nice combinations and seems to have great stamina. Estrada is a tough fighter and not really an "easy" win for anyone, but I thought Berto got hit a little bit too much. With his advantages in speed and footwork, Andre should have been able to outbox him without eating so much leather. Against a harder puncher he could have KO'd. That being said he has talent and shows up to fight. I'll be looking forward to seeing him in the future.
..... Funny, I don't care for the jeff lacy comparisons. IMO, Berto has a much better offensive arsenal. Unfortunantely he also has a much worse chin than lacy and the big similarity with lacy is he has no head movement and get hit to much. Lacy never had a jab anything like Berto though, nor his combination punching.
The major problem with Berto is simply that he has his chin way in the air ALL the time...I mean ALL the time. And that is especially compounded by his relatively short height...and will become more of an issue as he faces better fighters. He just leaves his chin in the air...and despite his offensive arsenal and movement, doesn't move his head ONE inch. That being said - he looked MUCH improved vs. Estrada, who is a tough guy and a very good litmus test. Peace.
like i said in the rbr he look like a 135 Shane Mosley...not as good...but the combinations he was throwing were mean and fast....
He should fight Joel Julio. That would be a VERY good test him. Julio is limited as hell, but he can crack. He'd have a good chance to KO Berto. But as I understand it, Julio wants no parts of Berto. In maybe 1 or 2 more fights if he continues to improve, Berto will be ready for someone like a Clottey, or Collazo.
He should fight Quintana after one or two more fights....Quintana beat Joel Julio..but might be a shell after the beating Cotto gave him....hasn't had a fight since.
Berto He had really nice fight against a tough Estrada. Where do you put him at WW now? Has he broke the top 10? Who would you like to see him fight next?
IMO that was a good version of Estrada that he beat as well. However I don't think Berto is elite. The best of the best may stop him. As fast as he is , he is still easy to hit.
REED Would Comfortably Rank Berto in the Top 20 Right Now, but Not Top 10... He'll have to Fight a Top 10'er 1st, but he's on his Way... REED
I think Berto's got the skills but not the chin. I've always said I look at HOW prospects get hit...Berto's a guy who gets hit square on the chin when he gets hit. He's got the skills, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get starched unexpectantly like Anthony Thompson did when he was an up and coming prospect. Berto in with puncher...even a non-skilled one will be his undoing.
