Liked this a lot. It wasn't without its issues- the pacing felt a bit slow during the middle, I wasn't really sold on the Buckingham palace scenes and I didn't think the finale felt anywhere near as dramatic as it should have been. but both the lead actors were 5 star and the relationship and dialogue between Sofie and the giant was really touching without ever crossing into sacharine mush or cliched tropes (like the bossy, capable little girl becoming mother figure to a slightly pathetic giant creature - woulda been easy to play that one). The stylised sets of london were brilliant too with a weird mix of elements from victorian times, the 40s and present day. Slightly let down by a couple of cheap 'cinema audience' laughs. Dogs farting, uproarious! Hahfbbgbbhbhb the dog farted!!! But there were other bits which were quite funny. I award this 8 thumbs up

More suitable for grownup viewing than a superhero movie, bruda.

it was a Spielberg remake of one of my fave cartoons as a kid, seemed worth checking

Seriously that's all cineworld seem to fucking show- kids films or superhero films. Which ARE kids films, guys. Sorry state of affairs, thank goodness for independent cinemas

    BFG was good tho.

  6. I think a good 90% of movies released today are for kids.
    Sad state of affairs, really...

Super hero films are meant for everybody. They started to become quality and do big business when the film makers realized they shouldn't just make them for kids. The shitty Star Wars prequels killed the notion of big budget movies made just for people under 10.

no objection to people watching the odd stupid film about invincible muscle men but the total lack of grown up films in multiplexes - you know, films a 13 year old boy might not totally get - is pretty grim

BFG though! Ill definitely get that on dvd. Story/pacing wasn't all that well executed but the characterization was pure gid

Yeah, "real movies" are more for watching at home nowadays. It is summer to be fair though.

It looks ok, but I don't think it'll be as good as the cartoon.

  16. Why has this movie only made 65%, globally, of its budget so far? :scratcher: :dunno:

Because it appeals to people like Hut, who live on the fringes of society.
