Lemieux vs Frank Fletcher would've been an unholy fight.

I'm honestly surprised Sheika vs Brewer never happened. That would've been a truly gruesome affair for however long it lasts.

For a few seconds while the video loaded, I thought I was wrong and Shieka vs Brewer actually happened and this was the vid.

"Galento, who claimed to be 5'9 (177 cm) tall, liked to weigh in at about 235 lb (107 kg) for his matches. He achieved this level of fitness by eating whatever, whenever he wanted. A typical meal for Galento consisted of six chickens, a side of spaghetti, all washed down with a half gallon of red wine, or beer, or both at one sitting. When he did go to training camp, he foiled his trainer's attempts to modify his diet, and terrorized his sparring partners by eating their meals in addition to his."

Imagine somebody saying that you "Claimed" to be 5-9 :Jest:

    Sorry lol

Somebody mentioned Galento so I had to check it out. He landed an epic hook in that fight.

Indeed, but Brewer was a cut above Sheika, and most likely would have busted him up and stopped him.

Brewer would have sliced and diced him. Brewer was a massive 168lr with rangy arms. He'd have cut that guy to bits.

Sheika was really just a tuffie, nothing more.

Sheika was popular in u.s. because he was on FNF a lot.

I heard the FBI were going to arrest him and then refrained as they saw his fights and said "He's no bomber".

    I'm here all week.

Sheika's best performance was when he blasted Stephane Ouellette in 2.

    This.

He went through a number of trainers (Emanuel Steward trained him at one point) but he never progressed beyond being able to beat journeyman-level opponents (that includes Glen Johnson, who was not yet an elite fighter at the time). I always thought he had the talent to be better than he ended up being, but he never really took "the next step" forward.

I think the closest he came to putting all his tools together was in his late career effort vs. Lacy, when he outboxed/outsmarted Lacy early before Lacy surged on late to retake the fight.

I think its more simple than that. Omar Sheika just wasn't good. I dont think Eddie Futch could have changed that.

He had good pop, he had above average handspeed, and a decent chin, but that's about it.

    Not much overall ability.

I rebember Sheika pushing hard for a rosenblatt match. Was in bad taste but it would have been a hell of an atmosphere

If you watch the early canelo fights you can see the improvements. Same with Wlad. Adaptations.

Guys like Hamed just stopped training, literally stopped doing what made them unique.

I think Oscar did a bit too.

But Sheika simply never learned things to forget to do. Lol

He was legit getting write ups in Ring etc as a real and dangerous prospect. He looked tough. It wasnt until i saw him that i realized he wasnt very fast or long or powerful.

I remember him being touted cos i went into shops reading those magazines when i was younger and penniless. He was touted as a real prospect us he was a sort of Jeremy Lin, a rarity/oddity in the shape of an Arab boxer. Hamsho comparisons were made. Naturally. :Jest:

He didnt seem hugely political either and it's odd reading those old articles how little id politics was present in the interviews. He said drugs were dirty. That was it. Maybe they filtered out the worst stuff.

Nah Sheika was pretty political. Came in with a keffieh and Said he wanted to fight Rosenblatt cause his people were killing palestinian childrens

I know he had the Keffieh but I remember a totally different story regards Rosenblatt.

I think it was Pazienza that hated Rosenblatt :Jest:

All wins are celebrated. Roy Jones was reduced to fighting the utter dregs two of them in his later years and was as happy to pick up a win there as anywhere.

Some fine day these guys will realize that the original "Bazooka" was the name given to crude trumpet used by radio comedian Bob Burns.

That name was then taken up by US servicemen to describe their {broadly impotent} shoulder fired rockets in WW2, as the tube of the launcher looked a bit like Bob Burns Bazooka.

"Bazooka" is therefore not a very "Explosive" or "dynamic" nickname.
