As bad as the HW division has always sucked, and still does....how did this guy not win a belt and earn tons of money.

He is lazier than hell, yet guys like Jameel McCline and Oleg Maskaev can still earn money here??

The guy can bang, has a chin second to only Oliver McCall....why doesn't he have 400 fights by now:?

No wonder Morrison is coming back.

    David Tua is fat.

It actually is a decent time for Tua. Most of the heavyweights right now can't really box. There is no Chris Byrd for him to run into.

I've wondered that myself. I used to be pretty high on him.

He is short, he is fat, he is lazy, but fuck - he has a helluva punch and a great chin, and you'd think that was enough to clean up in this state of a division.

I just don't think he really has the heart, fire, motivation and desire.

Samuel Peter fights at his pace.

    So does Shannon Briggs.

    There's hope for him yet.

    I agree.

Either he doesn't wanna fight anymore, or he's dumb.

That is why I am asking WHY?? Doesn't he see that?

If Tua was motivated,...he would KILL Samuel Peter.

If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle. Same shit applies here.

I understand that, and you're right.

BUt why wouldn't a guy like that apply himself a little more to make alot of money?

It isn't like he is fighting in the middleweight diviison or something.

Well, there was talk for a while of him fighting Arreola.

Tua said he didn't have enough time to get ready.

All he needs to do is fight one or two Briggs leftovers and he'd probably be ready...and he'd certainly be welcomed back on HBO or Showtime.

It's all up to him at this point.

Not sure, but that's what separates the champions from the contenders.

Tua has always possesed the tools, but not the extra gear.

Tua doesn't much like boxing I'd guess, leaving aside the interminable managerial issues, he could have made plenty of money but just didn't seem to have the drive

It's simple, he fought during the period where the division was strong enough to keep 1 dimensional guys like him from succeeding, not to mention Lennox was around. Then he takes nearly a decade off and should be retired. Right now the division is at its weakest and I still wouldn't see him as being anything more than a top 15 contender if that high.

Bottom line is I hate the guy. There isn't a more boring fighter to watch as he casually walks around the ring and throws 1 punch at a time. He will occasionally fool the weak minded by having a semi entertaining fight if his opponent is crazy enough to come to him, but the bottom line is, if Tua comes back I'm rooting for him big time..........to fail.

I still think he burned out a little bit early in his career. He had some real wars with guys Maskaev, Izon(ritei), Ibeabuchi, Rahman...and frankly, outside of Rahman, they were sort of unexpectedly good fights.

He did give it his best shot heading into the Byrd fight, he got in tremendous shape (for him) and was considered the heavy favorite.

But he lost clearly and ever since then he's never shown the willingness to really get in shape. Add in the managerial problems and the inactivity and it's no surprise he is where he is.

Still, his name carries excitement with it, even if he can't bring that excitement into the ring...so there will be a chance for him if he just does the minimal amount of work (like Briggs did).

The fat bastard didn't deserve to make a damn penny out of the sport. The shape he showed up to fights in was an absolute insult to the paying fans and to the dignity of the sport.

:flip: Fuck David Tua and every heavyweight above 12% body fat. I hope they all get ball cancer, I hate them more than the republican party.

And that's the problem. He's still living off of the hype of those earlier fights. He stopped being exciting several years ago, but it's obvious reputations are hard to shake.
