This fight has Barrera-Morales potential IMO.

2 excellent young Mexican champions in their prime fighting to unify titles. This fight is going to be an all out war.

Marquez-Vasquez 2 and Taylor-Pavlik FOTY award is in jeperdy with this great fight coming up.

I like Juan Diaz by wide decision.

Julio is a good all-around fighter, but I don't believe he handles pressure particularly well and Juan will be all over him.

If Julio had a big punch, I'd pick him in a second but he doesn't.

The only way to thwart Juan's attack is to hit him hard enough to make him think twice about pressing...and you must have the balls and fortitude to not get discouraged once he's taken your best shots and keeps coming.

I think this will be alot like the Freitas fight except Julio will go the distance. He'l make it interesting in some spots but Juan will win a clear and decisive decision.

Julio's power is very under-rated. He should be able to hurt (or at least discourage) Juan no problem. Plus he has good hand-speed. If Juan isn't careful, he will be hurt IMO.

i would've picked julio to win about 2 years ago, but i think juan has improved and is the better fighter of the two. i'm going to juan via decision or late TKO

Juan doesn't have the power of Castillo but I can't get that fight out of my mind when thinking about this matchup.

Juan's activity and punch volume should be too much for Julio. Julio is more finesse than anything else. I think Juan's activity will prevent Julio from fully sitting down on his punches to generate any kind of power shots to disrupt Juan's offense.

Plus, Juan's got a fairly decent reach and while his jab isn't extremely fast, he times it well and once he starts to jab with Julio (stuffing a hard jab in Julio's face) that'll completely disrupt Julio's rhythm and set up bodyshots later in the fight.

That's exactly my thinking as well.

Julio DOES have the power to hurt Juan, especially right down the middle; so early/middle will be competitive.

But once Juan warms up, I don't think Julio will be able to stick to his plan and/or deal effectively with the pressure.

And Juan has improved to the point where it's not just about the swarming and high volume any more.

I think Juan takes over around rounds 7-8 and doesn't look back.

Julio just doesn't handle pressure well....check out the Jauregui fight, too.

    Peace.

I can't wait for this fight, but wish there was a better supporting cast. The undercard is a bit ass. I know it's irrelevant for those who are watching at home, therefore only seeing the one fight. But there's not much to look forward to in the support bouts, other than cheering on fighters you like in showcase bouts.

As for the bout, I agree with Muzse and his mullet-riddled, politically-correct alter ego Mr. Brook. The only twist is that I do think it will end inside the distance, but agree with both that once Juan takes control of the bout, he will never look back.

Bastage. WHEN will I get rid of this slanderous false image?

You think Juan will be able to stop Julio?

No mention of Julio's shitty defense for a guy who tries to box? Well I will mention it. Julio's defense is crap and it's why Juan will beat him.

Juan will win either by late TKO, or VERY commanding UD.

Julio Diaz just isnt very good.

Juan isn't a great defencive fighter and hes not a big puncher. There is going to alot of chances to land for Julio.

Ramon Montano took another beating from Juan in sparring today. Juan's output was 60+ punches up to 90 in all 6 rounds of sparring. Ramon has a fight on Friday... He's a good fighter, but is a stationary target. Ramon was landing short punches up the middle on Juan. Juan was taking many punches in order to throw back. He outlanded Ramon, but the difference was he landed with 5X the power. Montano was stunned a couple times. Juan's overhand rights were near devastating.. Knock on Juan is little to no head movement and little variety in his punches. Juan's team thinks Julio will fight the majority of the bout as southpaw.
Juan will break Julio down with bodyshots until the bout is so one-sided the ref will stop it. If Smoger is ref, Julio never fights again...

Yes, I agree too. Juan by fairly wide UD, but REALLY rooting for Julio to knock him out sparkers just to nause Karl.

Juan has had ALOT of trouble with lefties before in the gym and Julio is a natural leftie fighting orthodox that switch hits, Juan has never fought a southpaw in the pros and I am telling you that it may bother him, especially without the trainer that he has had for years in his corner and the fact that he is not sparring any lefties or switch hitters to get ready.

I hope Juan wins but this fight worries me.

Ahh, Ebo Elder chimes in.. :flip:

For the Julio fight, Juan WILL have a chief cornerman who's been in his corner since he was an amateur. FYI, Mr. I love Ronnie Shields.

Yeah but Julio will need to be the boxer. When you have a shitty defense it's harder to box another guy's ears off.

I can ease your worried mind brother, Juan wins BIG here.
    Feel better now?
It's not going to bother him a bit as Julio is not as effective from the southpaw stance, first of all.
I told Julio three years ago I didn't think he could beat Juan when you and I were in San Antonio and Julio shrugged his shoulders, and that was the 2004 version of Juan, and look how much he has improved since.
The only days I can get over there may be Friday or Saturday to talk to him for here, but I can make it one of those days.
I don't need to see him spar, I've been on the receiving end of a butt kicking from him awhile back.

Win or lose, I think people are gonna be surprised by how much trouble Juan has dealing with Julio.
