I think there DOES need to be some sort of tort reform. Of course the powers that be will influence it in their favor. You say the "system in the US". It IS quite depressing, not only for the power certain corporations might have over the legal system, but also for the relative ease with which you can peddle frivolous lawsuits and class action claims, with little or no repercussion on the litigants if their claims ARE thought to be frivolous.

On the other hand, a corporation or individual with unlimited resources, can pretty much sue anybody they want out of existence without actually winning a case. Just hanging them up in litigation until they have no money left to pay their lawyers.

The system is rigged in so many different ways, it's pretty scary.

You guys are litigious bunch, no doubt about it. I would suggest a penalty even jail time for those ridiculous frivolous claims but only a jury can decided that. With the corruption involved no single person should be in a position to decide not even a judge. The stats on Texas were interesting, tort reform in full swing yet the cost of medical is rising faster than any other state.

The cap on settlements is grossly unfair. Tort reform, design by and for big business.
