Tszyu was one of those talented fighters that just didn’t have that heart to pull through when the going got tough. Hatton imposed his will on an admittedly older Tszyu and made him quit.
Vince Phillips beat him the same way when Tszyu was prime. In fairness I think Tim was done physically and incapable of going on. His legs were gone and he had taken everything from Fundora. He's also been KO'd and in that Bakhram fight he showed elite heart. That was one of the worst drubbings I've seen. He was chicken dancing multiple times and should have been stopped way earlier but he didn't quit. Kostya was a guy who would quit when he had more left. Just giving up. Tim had more heart imo but he's way less skilled obviously.
I'm no Tszyu fan, but he didn't quit against Philips. Philips had him totally out on his feet against the ropes. Kostya Tszyu wasn't totally devoid of heart. We aren't talking Camacho Junior here. But he proved to be a frontrunner. My all time favorite fighter was a frontrunner. I'll admit it. But I think Mike had more of a fighting spirit than Tszyu. Tszyu would probably fold in a Ruddock type war.
The QUIT In Tszyu, as it Pertains to "Cool Vince", Manifested in Tszyu's Refusal to Even ENTERTAIN a RE...Phillips Took Tszyu's "O", His Title and Literally Offered EVERY Concession for a RE, Including Traveling to Australia... But Tszyu DIDN'T Want It...He Willingly GAVE UP on an Opportunity to REDEEM Himself...He QUIT... REED
Oscar was another guy who AT TIMES was a front runner. He showed heart against Quartey, but he quit against Hopkins and Pacquiao, and ran from Trinidad. Obviously Oscar was more talented than Tszyu, but the point still stands.
Yes, this part is accurate. Wanted no parts of a rematch. Despite his groupies at the time saying how much he had "improved" post-Philips, Tszyu never believed he could whup Cool Vince.
Yeah it was strange. I think people believed it was the same thing as with a Sharmba Mitchell rematch but that that one turned out much differently.
I dont see DLH as a frontrunner at all. He showed heart way too many times for that (especially the aforementioned Quartey, the 2 mosley and the vargas fights). Even against tito, he only started running in the last 2 rounds or so. And we all know that he should have gotten the win. The Bhop fight was probably a fix, and against pac, he was old and catching a terrible beating
Maybe. Maybe not. But it was Oscar who didn’t want a rematch in the summer of 2000 and elected to go with Mosley whom was seen by many as too small for Oscar, only the outcome backfired. If Oscar felt he was wronged, I think he’d have gone all out to make the rematch. Assuming the Hopkins fight wasn’t fixed, that body shot was not a reason to quit. The acting job was bad. If it was a fix, it just makes Oscar look even worse, as a fighter. If it wasn’t a fix, he took the easy way out instead of electing to take his beating like a champion. Against Pac I guess he can get a pass. He was taking a one sided thrashing with no apparent hope of any come back. He was dead at the weight too.
Yeah no doubt they both quit when the going got tough. Unfortunately that will be an enduring Tszyu family legacy - unless Nikita can right the wrongs. Unfortunately Nikita is a skillless brawler whose career consists of blasting out Aussie bums, so its likely he'll get stopped/quit too once he leaves Australia.
