    Opinions on him?

He does indeed appear to be a poor man's Vernon Forrest.

Still, at 147 I think he would beat the hell outta Berto. And at 154 I think he could beat the Ginger.

Good physique, appears to be in decent condition, decent infighter, desultory, weak jab. Nice uppercut. Has the semblance of a chin, moderate to good power, a lock for the Hall of Fame in the current climate.

I agree with Manny Steward (for once). I think he belongs at 154.

How you think he'd fare against Freckles?

My thoughts on him pasted from another thread, the Floyd vs Cotto one.

Mike Jones, hmm, there's something up with him. He seems quite good, but just doesn't have "it".

There's something missing, he should have dominated Soto Karass and Lujan, he certainly could have done, I don't know what it is with him.

As we both know, Floyd avoids fighting full framed welters for a reason, but I think he'd have an easy enough time with Jones, a couple of problems here and there purely down to Jones's frame, but overall, Jones doesn't have it at elite level.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

He's not beating the hell of out anyone.

My thoughts exactly. He didn;t beat the hell out of Soto or Lujan, he's not beating the hell out of Berto either.

Honestly, that's almost a pick em fight to me, I wouldn't be surprised if Berto won. Like I said, there's something missing from Jones, he has the make up of an excellent fighter, but he doesn't quite have it.

    precisely

but I'd watch it if I were you, pretty soon everyone will be jumping all over you for being "biased" and a "hater" ... Most people here can't fathom that the talent pool in boxing is the shallowest it's been since the 20s:lol:

I can't say how anyone can argue. The only guys since 1995 that would be elite even in the 80's would be Pac and Mayweather. Tito, Oscar and Shane wouldn't be elite in the 80's. The only guy who I think is underrated is Vitali K. I know he has no great wins, but no one has dominated the division like he has. He barely loses rounds. Besides his lack of quality wins, the only bad thing I can say about him is his brother is that cunt Wlad.

I feel the same on all counts, though I would say MAB/Morales/JMM were all excellent as well... Tito/Shane/Oscar were also guys who at least would have gotten a belt or two even in a great era like the 80s, though I agree they would have been nowhere near the status they were in the late 90s, early 2000s

I also see Vitali as a big, difficult guy that few would have a chance of beating... he's very, very tough and awkward and he has a real mean streak... his brother is a princess

The 90s was the last era where new guys came on the scene that I thought were really good... the 2000s has not produced fighters of that caliber, with the exception of Pacquiao

I became a fan of Vitali when I was at the Corey Sanders fight at Staples. You can't see on TV how quick is feet are. I realize he is the fighting equivalent of me in bed. Several woman has seen my Vitali K movements while on top of them trying as I might to be gracefully and failing profoundly. It might be ugly, but it is effective. I really like him as a fighter. I would have loved to see him against consistent decent competition. Not the best analogy, because I am sure my female companions would disagree with the effective part of my lovemaking, but you get the point.

Quitali is one of the most overrated fighters of all time. I'm sorry, but the ONLY time that robot has faced anybody that wasnt a complete corpse, it was an old, fat, unmotivated Lewis. An old, fat, unmotivated Lewis that destroyed his face, and was on the verge of KO'ing him if they hadnt have stopped it due to the eye.

If you wanna talk about the 80's...... Tyson, and Holmes in their respective primes would have skulled fucked Vitali.

  17. Free Ike

People sure have a lot of myths about the Lewis fight.
    1. Vitali was ahead.
    2. Lewis was a round a way from getting stopped, not vice versa.
    3. Lewis punch that caused the cut, was as much of a lucky shot as the one Rahman landed on Lewis.
    4. If Vitali is so shit, why would Lewis run to retirement rather than make millions on a huge ppv fight? I'll tell you why. Lewis knew he lucked out and wanted no more. At the very least, he knew it would be a rough go.

As for Holmes and Tyson beating Vitali maybe. They wouldn't be as dismissive of his chances as you are. I probably agree with you, but Vitali is a serviceable heavy in any era, IMO. (as was Lewis I might add) Not sying he beats anyone, but he'd have a chance.

As for your derisive moniker "Quitali" it is a bit ridiculous. He quit in a fight in which he had to have surgery to repair the injurie she sustained. His fucking eye ball came out of his head against Lewis and he begged to continue.

    +1

He's very athletic, looks ripped and that's about it. Doesn't knows how to use his reach. Can't put a decent combo together.

He'd have a chance against some (perhaps Holy due to styles), but not Holmes or Tyson.

For one, Tyson would have been on him unlike ANYTHING he's ever seen before. Vitali is used to fighting guys who are slow as shit, skilless, and who go into a survival shell the moment he hits them. The most important of those 3 being the skilless part. The heavyweight division now is truly pathetic. It makes the contenders Mike destroyed look like murders row by comparison.

I mean, Razor Ruddock is a P4P great compared to SAM fuckin PETER.

And as for Holmes. Larry's jab would have brutalized Vitali's facial tissue.

He might lose. I don't disagree. He wouldn't be getting skull fucked either. That is all I am saying. I don't think Tyson's comp was all that much better. The heavyweight division has been bad for some time.

I quite like Jones. He's not very good at all, but it seems like he's comfortable being in there & he doesn't turn into a cat on the main road if a guy comes throwing at him like most prospects these days

Frank Bruno for starters, was better than ANYONE Vitali has beaten. Thats not to say I'd pick Bruno to beat Vitali, just comparing the comp.

Yep. For two guys who are absent from the collective psyche, they sure as fuck wiggle their way into some obscure threads. Vitali bashing. In a Mike Jones thread. On the weekend that Cotto beats Margarito, the anonymous one makes his return. Vitali is like The Holy Spirit. Other fighters are a vessel for him.

Ruddock, Holmes and Spinks were all better fighters than Corrie Sanders (Vitali's best win) too.

Shit, Blood Green was probably a better fighter than Sanders.

there is one guy bashing Vitali here

he was brought up in a complimentary fashion by two guys (Ike and Myself) who believe that the fighters of today suck balls compared to the fighters of two decades ago

Irish, it's a boxing site, people talk about boxers... the two heavyweight champs are Wlad and Vitali

I never said they weren't better. I said all that much better. I honestly don't see Vitali losing to anyone Tyson faced, including Bruno or Ruddock or that version of Larry. VK would stop Stinks.

To be fair, I agree. It's too bad he will retire with zero quality victories.

Like Nate Tubbs, Corrie Sanders is his best win. Corrie Sanders.
