should they be legal ^^^^^^ IMO, they should. The theory about rabbit punches being far more dangerous than << average >> punches has proven to be bullshit with the proleferation of MMA, where, in many organisations, they are allowed. And in many cases, the one receiving them is on his stomach while the other guy is on top of him raining rabbit punches with 4 oz gloves, a far more dangerous proposition than boxing rabbit punchin, yet only one death ( wasnt relied to rabbit punching btw ) and no serious injuries has ever occured in MMA. Nowaday, it seems the common excuses ( by the fans ) for a loss is to blame rabbit punching, and in most case the one receiving them is at much as fault than the one throwing them. Personnaly, I think they were outlaw to avoid situation where a boxer gets hit when, for whatever reasons, he had his back turn on his opponent ( very dangerous situation indeed ), but to correct this flaw, they should give a count, just like in Muay thai, to a boxer that show his back to his opponent.
The problem isn't the rabbit punch itself, but the fact that it usually occurs in a clinch. It would be detrimental for boxing to allow a punch which would encourage the use of the clinch and hit repeatedly tactic. edit I see your point though as you are talking more just about punches that occur when a fighter turns his back..
In fact, I think the rules should be the same, I have never seen a ref cancel a kd or ko because it was a rabbit punches, and it avoids the abusive usage of this ugly move, just that fans should stop complaining about them, Id love to see a boxer say he didnt really lose because he was counted out due to a rabbit punches, he would be a joke
I wrote my second post during the time you posted it and it basically was teh same with what you just wrote, but you putted it in better words.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC27g98t1HA The first kd is what Im talking about, does someone really blame Mayorga for the rabbit punches ^^^^ Vargas dipped low with his gloves stick to his face in the middle of a flurry, of course hes gonna get hit on the back of the head.
