As a whole I don't care much for this genre, but there are exceptions in which I like. Naturally, they fall less into the "chick flick" category despite the sub-genre they are in.

Coming to America is of course a classic. Every boxing historian knows the barbershop conversation. Eddie Murphy was amazing in the 80s.

500 Days of Summer is a favorite of mine.

Chasing Amy- I used to like Kevin Smith's movies. This managed to be funny, dirty, and pretty honest with the way it dealt with people's insecurities. Smith's best film and script, IMO, even though Clerks has more replay value.

There's Something About Mary- I'm not the biggest fan of Ben Stiller, in fact I usually don't find him to be very funny, but the movie as a whole was enjoyable to me.

Annie Hall- Woody Allen may be a neurotic, sick fuck who marries his step-daughter, but he can write.

L.A. Story- Steve Martin is a very good writer. I also thought that horseface Sarah Jessica Parker was cute in this movie.

Is Theres Something About Mary one? I would call that a comedy, not a romcom.

Anyway, Ive only seen two I liked. When Harry Met Sally and 9 Months.

Not sure Chasing Amy or Something About Mary qualify but I like those a lot to.

  5. I never thought of CTA as a Romantic comedy, but now that I think about it, it actually is. As such it certainly tops the list for me.
